Hong)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 9:15 AM PT \u2013 Thursday, December 9, 2021<\/h5>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cMy message to anyone thinking about coming to Los Angeles, especially during the holiday season, is don\u2019t.\u201d <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u2014 Jamie McBride, Director \u2013 Los Angeles Police Protective League<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The head of the Los Angeles Police Department\u2019s union issued a dire warning to visitors. In an <a href=\"https:\/\/losangeles.cbslocal.com\/2021\/12\/07\/we-cant-guarantee-your-safety-head-of-lapds-police-officers-union-warns-tourists-away\/\">interview<\/a> Wednesday, Jamie McBride of the Police Protective League warned tourists against visiting the city amid a surge in violent crime. He emphasized they simply cannot \u201cguarantee your safety\u201d as things have gotten out of control.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cI\u2019ve said it to people before, it\u2019s like that movie \u201cPurge,\u201d explained McBride. \u201cYou know, instead of 24-hours to commit your, these bad people have 365 days to commit whatever they want.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, LAPD Chief Michael Moore disagrees, reassuring the public that the spike in crime is contained and being dealt with accordingly.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s not out of control., it\u2019s not a spiral that we\u2019ve lost control over,\u201d he insisted. \u201cIt is important that we not have a sense of acquiescing or just lackadaisical approach to this.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, he admitted robberies rose roughly 5 percent compared to last year, but noted a general decline by 13 percent in 2019. Furthermore, the police chief emphasized almost all 14 criminals who were arrested after a recent smash-and-grab robbery have since been released due to California\u2019s zero bail policy, which he stressed needs to be modified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEleven were released on zero bail and we need the criminal justice system to look at those offenses and recognize how to keep the most dangerous individuals off the street,\u201d said Moore.<\/p>\n<p>He then insisted District Attorney George Gascon is committed to holding violent criminal offenders accountable.
