The artist created it using a digital art application.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=10159535832200729&amp;set=a.10150422191420729\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">claiming<\/a> the image shows the \u201cmost detailed model of a human cell to date, obtained using X-ray, NMR [Nuclear Magnetic Resonance], and cryo-electron microscopy data sets\u201d has been shared over 16,000 times. Similar claims about the image previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mauri.fox.3\/posts\/10222317161270701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">went viral<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact discovered&nbsp;the image is actually an <a href=\"https:\/\/russell-kightley.pixels.com\/featured\/animal-cell-russell-kightley.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">illustration<\/a> of an animal cell. The illustration, titled \u201cAnimal Cell\u201d and created by artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.russellkightley.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Kightley<\/a>, can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientific.pictures\/-\/galleries\/cells\/-\/medias\/5f776a66-e536-484f-bfa2-6132a68c117f-animal-cell-white-background\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scientific.Pictures<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientific.pictures\/-\/galleries\/cells\/-\/medias\/5f776a66-e536-484f-bfa2-6132a68c117f-animal-cell-white-background\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">other websites<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kightley also addressed the digital art piece on his website in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.russellkightley.com\/post\/animal-cell-goes-viral-again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 24 blog post<\/a>, where he detailed how he created it. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/12\/02\/fact-check-who-isolation-quarantine-social-distancing-coronavirus\/\">(RELATED: Does The WHO No Longer Recommend Isolation, Quarantine Or Social Distancing For COVID-19?)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe image was created twenty years ago for an educational poster for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biocam.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BioCam<\/a>. It took six weeks of full-time work to create using Painter (Fractal Design\u2019s Painter as it was, now it\u2019s managed by Corel),\u201d Kightley wrote. \u201cSince then, it\u2019s appeared in lots of places, including Richard Dawkins\u2019s book, The Greatest Show on Earth (plates 12-13 c).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.russellkightley.com\/post\/animal-cell-goes-viral-again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the blog post<\/a> that he \u201cwanted it to look like an opened jewelry box, for the glint and sense of wonder at the inner workings,\u201d and that it \u201cwas designed as a basic biology teaching tool.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An image shared on Facebook\u00a0allegedly shows the \u201cmost detailed model of a human cell to date.\u201dVerdict: False The image shows an illustration of an animal cell.
