In the unlikely event he is acquitted, Smollett\u2019s decision was a genius move. But it is far more likely that the jury sees through his ruse and Smollett is convicted. If so, the judge may sentence him to prison time for obstructing justice and perjuring himself on the witness stand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Another lawyer said the actor\u2019s testimony was \u201can unparalleled disaster,\u201d adding that Smollett not only \u201churt his case,\u201d but also \u201cwent beyond and made the prosecutor\u2019s case\u201d while on the stand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis story is so unbelievable and in the face of the evidence that no reasonable jury is ever going to buy it,\u201d attorney James White said of Smollett\u2019s testimony, which included admission that he did drugs with Bola Osundairo \u2014 who prosecutors say, along with his brother, actually perpetrated the fake attack. \u201cI think that he absolutely buried himself to the extent he wasn\u2019t already buried,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n<p>White said Smollett\u2019s testimony \u201cwas almost indecipherable trying to make sense of it, and I just don\u2019t see how any reasonable jury is going to find any truth in anything he said.\u201d And he also said Smollett never should have even testified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real issue of the real story here is why was he even up there taking the stand?\u201d White said. \u201cSo for me, the million-dollar question, which really hasn\u2019t played out during the course of the trial to the extent that I\u2019ve seen is, did his attorneys try to stop this? Or were they a part of this plan? Because if it\u2019s the latter, that\u2019s a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo go up in international media coverage and do what he did if it was sanctioned by his counsel, that\u2019s concerning to me.
