Gavin Newsom (D) said his state will become an abortion \u201csanctuary\u201d if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, the 1973 decision that created a right to abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll be a sanctuary,\u201d Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/news\/california\/story\/2021-12-08\/california-plans-to-be-abortion-sanctuary-if-roe-overturned\">said<\/a> last week, according to the Associated Press (AP). \u201cWe are looking at ways to support the inevitability and looking at ways to expand our protections.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.8378378378378\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cNo one is pro-abortion,\u201d they insist <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2vRyDXaP1c\">https:\/\/t.co\/2vRyDXaP1c<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Guy Benson (@guypbenson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/guypbenson\/status\/1468672332717826050?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The California Future of Abortion Council (CA FAB), composed of over 40 abortion industry and advocacy groups, has released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/d8\/e1\/d8e17825-72e0-4f6f-9c57-7549bb54261e\/ca_fab_council_report_.pdf\">report<\/a> containing a list of 45 recommendations for the state legislature to consider if the Court overturns <em>Roe<\/em>, including a way to pay for travel, accommodations, and the procedure itself for women coming into California from other states that might ban abortion.<\/p>\n<p>The Council, led by a steering committee that includes Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the office of State Sen. Toni G. Atkins, California Senate President pro Tempore, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/planned-parenthood-affiliates-california\/media\/california-future-of-abortion-council-releases-new-report-with-recommendations-to-protect-expand-abortion-access-in-california\">developed<\/a> its&nbsp;\u201cblueprint\u201d to help \u201cother state legislatures looking to protect and expand access to abortion,\u201d a statement at Planned Parenthood said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The report states:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p>It is imperative that California take the lead, live up to its proclamation as a \u201cReproductive Freedom State,\u201d and be ready to serve anyone who seeks abortion services in the state. We are releasing the following Recommendations to Protect, Strengthen, and Expand Abortion Services in California \u2013 a list of legislative, executive, and administrative actions for state policymakers to implement in order to meet the needs of people seeking abortions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the Guttmacher Institute, which <a href=\"https:\/\/states.guttmacher.org\/\">supports<\/a> abortion rights, 26 states \u201care certain or likely to ban abortion\u201d if the Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/01\/justice-brett-kavanaugh-on-abortion-why-should-this-court-be-the-arbiter\/\">overturns<\/a> <em>Roe<\/em>, with the number of women and girls seeking abortions in California anticipated to grow from 46,000 to 1.4 million, depending on the nature of the abortion bans in their states of residence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I ran clinic services for a women\u2019s health center, I saw countless individuals who needed information, services, and support,\u201d&nbsp;Atkins said in the Planned Parenthood statement, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>Working with the [CA] FAB Council, my colleagues and I will ensure Californians and people from every state can get the reproductive health services they need in a safe and timely way\u2014and that all our rights remain enshrined in law. This is crunch time, but we will not be dragged into the past. California will keep leading for the future.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The recommendations in the report include the following areas of focus, many of which center on funding and legal protection for abortion providers and recognition of the role Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE) in public schools plays in normalizing abortion:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Funds to support the work of abortion fund organizations, abortion providers, and other community-based organizations<\/li>\n<li>Investment in the development of a centralized data site with abortion access information<\/li>\n<li>Funding for infrastructure, capacity building, coordination, and safety measures for providers, clinics, patients, and funds.<\/li>\n<li>Create and fund an uncompensated care program to reimburse abortion providers<\/li>\n<li>Improve Medi-Cal reimbursement rates for abortion providers<\/li>\n<li>Establish a supplemental payment program for providers<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that commercial plans have fair and reasonable rates<\/li>\n<li>Optimize loan repayment to increase retention and recruitment of clinicians who provide abortion<\/li>\n<li>Provide financial support for abortion service providers to access affordable insurance coverage.<\/li>\n<li>Create and fund a grant program for abortion training and for providers serving medically underserved populations<\/li>\n<li>Enact legal protections from civil and criminal liability as well as disciplinary action to the extent possible for clinicians that provide abortions to patients<\/li>\n<li>Protect people from prosecutions and criminalization of abortion or pregnancy loss<\/li>\n<li>Adequately fund implementation and monitoring of California\u2019s existing comprehensive sexual health education (CSE) mandate.<\/li>\n<li>Require school districts to participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) and include a module on sexual and reproductive health care as one of the core survey modules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"11.985239852399\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Wow \u2014 California wants to use *taxpayer dollars* not just to fund abortions, but to pay for travel, lodging, and child care of people who travel to California for abortions.<\/p>\n<p>INCREDIBLE stuff. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EprHh273hu\">https:\/\/t.co\/EprHh273hu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Whitlock (@mattdizwhitlock) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattdizwhitlock\/status\/1468668665889492997?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mark Lee Dickson, director of Right To Life of East Texas and founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sanctuarycitiesfortheunborn.org\/sanctuary-cities-1\">Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn Initiative<\/a>, said in comments to Breitbart News that as California prepares to become a \u201csanctuary\u201d for abortion, \u201cTexas has already become a sanctuary for \u2018political&nbsp;refugees from California.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past several years I have met many from the state of California who have moved to Texas because California does not represent their beliefs and values,\u201d he said. \u201cTo those people I say,&nbsp;\u2018Texas welcomes you!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dickson observed that, with 42 Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn having passed ordinances that outlaw abortion within their limits, \u201cMore and more cities throughout Texas are saying, \u2018We do not want abortion here.\u2019 \u2018We do not want babies to be murdered in our city.\u2019\u201d He went on to explain:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p>There are mayors and councils who are listening to their people and willing to pass these ordinances themselves as they give the people what they want without having to go through a long and drawn out election process. It\u2019s an amazing thing to see. I think it is time every city in Texas outlaws abortion and becomes a Sanctuary City for the Unborn. I think it is time for the entire State of Texas to become a \u2018Sanctuary State for the Unborn.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>If California wants to be a \u2018Sanctuary State for Abortion\u2019 then so be it \u2013 it will be to their own detriment.&nbsp; Thankfully, if the people of their state do not want to live in a \u2018Sanctuary State for Abortion\u2019 they have the choice to move to a state which does not provide that atmosphere for their residents.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBorn Californians get a choice to leave their state, unborn Californians are not afforded that luxury,\u201d&nbsp;he observed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>California Gov.
