(Photo by Stefani Reynolds\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 5:31 PM PT \u2013 Wednesday, December 8, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>A bipartisan effort in the Senate failed to block the continued sale of arms to Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>In a vote of 30-to-67, the proposal fell short of the simple majority needed to stop the $650 billion sale to the kingdom. The effort to block the sales was spearheaded by Utah\u2019s Mike Lee (R), Kentucky\u2019s Rand Paul (R) and Vermont\u2019s Bernie Sanders (I).<\/p>\n<p>The senators argued that Saudi Arabia shouldn\u2019t be rewarded for its aggressions in Yemen and the attacks on its own people with more arms from the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Saudi government continues to wage its devastating war in Yemen and repress its own people, we should not be rewarding them with more arms sales,\u201d said Sanders.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">LIVE: The Saudi government is waging a devastating war in Yemen and repressing its own people.
