Greg Abbott is tromping potential Democrat gubernatorial challenger Beto O\u2019Rourke (D) by double digits in a hypothetical matchup in the Lone Star State, a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday found.<\/p>\n<p>The survey <a href=\"https:\/\/poll.qu.edu\/poll-release?releaseid=3830\">found<\/a> Abbott leading failed presidential candidate O\u2019Rourke 52 percent to 37 percent. Abbot has the overwhelming support of Republican voters\u201390 percent. According to the survey, independents support Abbott&nbsp;47 to 37 percent.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>A majority, 54 percent of voters overall, say O\u2019Rourke is \u201ctoo liberal,\u201d compared to 41 percent of voters who believe Abbott is \u201ctoo conservative.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Abbott also has a higher favorability rating, 52 percent to O\u2019Rourke\u2019s 36 percent. Asked which of the two would handle key issues better, more said Abbott would.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Per the poll:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the economy: 60 percent say Abbott, while 32 percent say O\u2019Rourke;<\/li>\n<li>gun policy: 60 percent say Abbott, while 33 percent say O\u2019Rourke;<\/li>\n<li>the situation at the Mexican border: 58 percent say Abbott, while 35 percent say O\u2019Rourke;<\/li>\n<li>election laws: 55 percent say Abbott, while 40 percent say O\u2019Rourke;<\/li>\n<li>the response to the coronavirus: 54 percent say Abbott, while 39 percent say O\u2019Rourke;<\/li>\n<li>abortion: 49 percent say Abbott, while 41 percent say O\u2019Rourke.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overall, the Texas-Mexico border tops the list of important issues for Texas voters, garnering 33 percent of votes for the most urgent problem. Notably, during his presidential bid, O\u2019Rourke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/15\/beto-orourkes-seven-greatest-hits-walls-do-not-save-lives-walls-end-lives\/\">told<\/a> a crowd in&nbsp;El Paso, Texas, that \u201cwalls do not save lives, walls end lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The poll, taken among 1,224 registered voters from December 2-6, 2021, has a margin of error of +\/- 2.8 percent.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">O\u2019Rourke formally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/15\/democrat-beto-orourke-launches-texas-gubernatorial-bid\/\">announced<\/a> his gubernatorial bid in November and quickly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/09\/12\/beto-orourke-hell-yes-were-going-to-take-your-ar-15\/\">capitalized<\/a> on one of his famed quotes from&nbsp;<\/span>the last presidential election, when he said, \u201cHell yes, we\u2019re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.\u201d During a November appearance on CNN\u2019s <em>State of the Union<\/em>, O\u2019Rourke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2021\/11\/21\/beto-orourke-doubles-down-on-gun-pledge-should-not-allow-americans-to-own-weapons-of-war\/\">said<\/a> he still planned to&nbsp;take away \u201cweapons of war.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Texas Gov.
