class=\"subheading\"><span>Heather Mac Donald, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute and among the nation\u2019s foremost statisticians of crime, blasted current criminal justice reform policies which signal to criminals that even \u201cappalling, savage\u201d crimes have no consequences, calling the narrative of minorities under threat from police in America a \u201ccompletely false\u201d one perpetuated by the Biden administration and the media, while warning that \u201ccivilization is breaking down\u201d as the country undergoes a \u201cslow-motion riot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In an interview with Steve Malzberg on his weekly commentary show <\/span><i><span>Eat the Press<\/span><\/i><span>, Mac Donald, who is also a <em>New York Times<\/em> best-selling author, addressed the rise in officers killed this year which exceeded those killed in any other year.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Police under attack not unarmed blacks\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R7k9ayr-zCg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cAnti-Cop Mania\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Asked if the current crime surge is the result of the \u201cpost-George Floyd anti-cop mania\u201d fueled by the media, Mac Donald replied, \u201cOf course it is.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are living through a slow-motion riot,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She then noted the \u201cmessage\u201d criminals perceive as a result of the lack of repercussions.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhether it\u2019s attacks on officers or attacks on property, criminals have gotten the message that there is no consequence for the most appalling savage behavior when they\u2019re going after cops,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Mac Donald also lamented the \u201cassault[s]\u201d law enforcement experience in the U.S. today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI can tell you across the country in the United States today, when cops get out of their car to make an inquiry, to question somebody who\u2019s acting like he\u2019s pulling up his gun out of his waistband, to go into a drug set, they find themselves routinely surrounded by hostile jeering crowds throwing things at them,\u201d she said. \u201cThey\u2019re assaulted.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is what it\u2019s like to be a cop in America today,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Citing how cops \u201ccan\u2019t take it any longer\u201d as they are \u201cgunned down and ambushed,\u201d she claimed cops are \u201cleaving the profession in droves\u201d in what she called the \u201cFerguson effect.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201dOfficers are backing off under this phony narrative of racism and criminals are emboldened and they are controlling the streets,\u201d she added. \u201cCivilization is breaking down in this country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), 314 officers have been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GLFOP\/status\/1466815204596011009?s=20\"><span>shot<\/span><\/a><span> so far this year, with 58 officers killed by gunfire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Blasting the \u201cfalse\u201d narrative repeated by the Biden administration and mainstream media that black people \u201care under threat from the police in this country,\u201d Mac Donald sought to portray the numbers in perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen you compare the 58 dead officers to the number of officers in the country \u2014 which is about 675,000 \u2014 and then let\u2019s look at how many unarmed blacks have been fatally shot by a police officer this year: four\u2026 of about 40 million blacks,\u201d she said. \u201cThat makes a police officer in the United States at least 375 times [more] likely to be killed by a black person in America as an unarmed black is to be killed by a cop.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Culpability of the Left<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Mac Donald blamed the left for depicting crime as fictional.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe left thinks that crime is a racist fiction,\u201d she said, \u201c[and] that it\u2019s just a creation of the deranged Trumpian imagination.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Claiming the criminal justice system today is \u201call about disparate impact,\u201d she warned that safety would not return \u201cunless we confront this conceit head on and completely dismiss it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe reason that prosecutors are not setting bail\u2026 that they\u2019re refusing to prosecute theft, shoplifting, resisting arrest, assaults on officers, disorderly conduct, drug dealing\u2026 [that] you have police chiefs\u2026 telling their officers to back off from \u2018stop, question and frisk\u2019 \u2014 is because every law enforcement practice has a disparate impact on blacks,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat\u2019s not because law enforcement is racist,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s because there is a much, much higher rate of criminal offending among blacks than among whites.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&nbsp;<\/span><span>The reason for the lack of enforcement of the law, according to Mac Donald, is because prosecutors \u201chave decided they don\u2019t want to put more blacks in prison.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThey don\u2019t want to hold blacks pre-trial even though they\u2019re a clear threat,\u201d she said, calling to \u201cstop doing that and say that \u2018no, our criminal justice system is not racist, yes there are more blacks in prison but that is because their homicide rates are like 13 times the rate of whites.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou cannot enforce the law in a colorblind fashion without having a disparate impact on blacks,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She also slammed the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, which \u201cdoesn\u2019t give a damn about the fact that there were over four dozen black children fatally gunned down in drive-by shootings last year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The COVID Pandemic as an Excuse<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Asked about White House press secretary Jen Psaki\u2019s suggestion last week that the COVID-19 pandemic is \u201ca root cause\u201d of recent organized looting incidents across the country, Mac Donald called it both \u201chilarious\u201d and \u201cinsane.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe reason is not COVID, it\u2019s de-policing,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s what I\u2019ve called the \u2018Ferguson effect.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Claiming \u201cthe facts are completely wrong,\u201d Mac Donald noted that \u201ccrime was going down in this country in the first part of 2020\u201d and only increased \u201cafter the George Floyd riots\u201d and only \u201cin the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cEvery other country in the world that had the lockdowns \u2014 that had the insane hysteria \u2014 crime went down; violent crime went down,\u201d she explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe United States is the only place to see what we saw last year \u2014 which was the largest single percentage increase in history \u2014 in this nation\u2019s history \u2014 in homicides,\u201d she added. \u201cWe\u2019re the only ones that saw it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Wisconsin Christmas Parade Attack<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>On the release of Darrell Brooks on $1,000 bail for allegedly running over the mother of his child in the days leading up to his attack on a Christmas parade in Wisconsin last month, which left six people dead and another 62 injured, Mac Donald claimed it was \u201cthe reason that [Milwaukee County District Attorney] John Chisholm \u2014 who\u2019s one of the early progressive prosecutors \u2014 is not imposing bail.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe reason he\u2019s letting criminals out is because of disparate impact,\u201d she added. \u201cHe says it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Addressing the lack of media coverage of the parade attack and the perpetrator once the latter was identified as a black male, Mac Donald said \u201cAmerica turns its eyes away from inner-city dysfunction.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019re terrified of it,\u201d she added. \u201cWe\u2019re terrified it\u2019s not going to end.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Mac Donald, due to \u201cracial equity,\u201d liberal DAs in major cities \u201cdon\u2019t want to put more blacks in prison \u2014 even if they have assaulted their girlfriend, run over their girlfriend, use guns.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As a result, she claimed, crime has skyrocketed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing these hordes looting stores; we\u2019re seeing real domestic terrorism\u2026. not the phony white nationalist kind that is a fiction of\u2026 the Biden White House, the Attorney General and the mainstream media,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Crime Surge<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Blasting current policies for producing such spikes in crime, Mac Donald, who is known for her research on the effects of criminal justice reform, argued that law enforcement was the key.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe [must] say we are going to enforce the law, and the consequences are what they are, and the solution for black crime is to reknit the family, it is not to let criminals out on the streets where they\u2019re going to prey first of all on law-abiding blacks,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe solution right now is law enforcement,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt\u2019s all we\u2019ve got and the government has its primary responsibility to protect not just life but property.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen stores cannot operate and entrepreneurs cannot put their goods into commerce, there is no civilization left,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Blasting \u201cone excuse after another\u201d for minority crimes, Mac Donald said the \u201crefusal to hold minorities to standards of personal responsibility and respect for the law\u201d is what \u201cbreeds\u201d more of it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s double standards in our society and we are paying the price in our lives,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCarjacking\u2019s are out of control \u2014 they\u2019re coming to a suburb near you,\u201d she added. \u201cPeople are being dragged to death as a result of a carjacking.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She also warned \u201cthe thefts are coming\u201d as well.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese flash mobs are stripping these stores blind but [now] they\u2019re carrying guns,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd you know who\u2019s going to go to a store \u2014 a Best Buy \u2014 at this point with the risk of these sorts of mass assaults?\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAnd who knows if they will start using their guns?\u201d she concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Mac Donald\u2019s remarks come as the U.S. witnesses a<\/span><span> continuing rise in violent crime nationwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The statistics cited in a <\/span><i><span>City Journal<\/span><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/violent-crimes-disparate-racial-impact\"><span>piece<\/span><\/a><span>&nbsp;this month describe <\/span><span>\u201cthe largest rate of increase in homicides recorded in modern history\u201d:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p><span>Murder rose 29 percent from 2019 to 2020, surpassing the previous record 12.7 percent spike from 1967 to 1968. Unsurprisingly, the victims of the latest surge in violence were not equally distributed across racial groups. The rise in black homicide victims from 2019 to 2020 was almost twice as big as the rise in white victims (28 percent versus 16 percent).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In October, \u201cSquad\u201d member and Defund the Police sympathizer Rep.
