In addition to these changes, citizens must receive two vaccine shots as opposed to one to be considered fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio said that the move was necessary as a \u201cpreemptive strike\u201d against the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus. Health experts \u2014 including Fauci \u2014 have stated that while the Omicron variant may be more transmissible, there is not any indication it is any more lethal.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci\u2019s comments come a day after a federal judge struck down the Biden administration\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal contractors.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-halts-biden-vaccine-mandate-for-federal-contractors\">reported<\/a> Tuesday that court decision was the latest in a string of vaccine mandates that have been paused by various courts in response to lawsuits \u2014 including one led by The Daily Wire:<\/p>\n<p><em>The [contractor mandate] would have taken effect on January 4th, and would have affected about 25% of the U.S. workforce, including employees of companies like Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Google, and General Motors, Bloomberg reported.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The mandate was opposed by a number of states almost immediately after it was signed, including Arizona, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Biden administration\u2019s mandate for private companies with more than 100 employees has also been suspended. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled an injunction against the mandate.
