Zoe Lofgren, a senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, is mother to Sheila Zoe Lofgren Collins, who works as corporate counsel for Google, The New York Post first <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/07\/major-antitrust-adversary-in-congress-has-daughter-on-googles-legal-team\/\">reported<\/a>. Lofgren has worked behind the scenes to encourage Democratic opposition to a series of antitrust <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/24\/bills-combatting-big-techs-monopolistic-practices-closer-law-bipartisan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bills<\/a>&nbsp;advanced out of the House Judiciary Committee in June, with one House Democrat refusing to vote for the antitrust legislation due to Lofgren\u2019s influence, the NYP reported, citing anonymous sources.<\/p>\n<p>When reached for comment, Lofgren told the Daily Caller News Foundation that she was proud of her daughter\u2019s accomplishments and that Collins\u2019 role at Google has no influence on her political decisions. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/09\/ken-buck-david-cicilline-big-tech-algorithms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Bipartisan Bill Would Force Tech Companies To Provide Platform Without Manipulating News Feed)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery decision I make as a lawmaker is what I believe to be in the best interest of every person living in California\u2019s 19th Congressional District, not anyone else,\u201d Lofgren told the DCNF. \u201cTo imply otherwise may be an attempt to benefit those who disagree with me on a particular policy issue, but it is false.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7274475\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"36\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7274475\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">People walk in Google\u2019s main campus as a sit-in to protest against Google\u2019s retaliation against workers takes place within Google\u2019s main cafeteria in Mountain View, California on May 1, 2019. (Photo by Amy Osborne \/ AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Collins also works on Google\u2019s contracts law team, and she has no involvement in Google\u2019s antitrust battles, Lofgren said.<\/p>\n<p>Lofgren has been outspoken about her opposition to the bills, which are tailored to target the largest tech companies, including Amazon, Google, Meta and Apple, and impose a number of restrictions on Big Tech mergers, self-preferencing practices and data policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge that any new regulatory authority or adjustments to existing antitrust laws should focus not only on the dominant firms themselves, but on the larger ecosystems that their platforms enable, and from which they derive most of their power,\u201d Lofgren said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/lofgren.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/lofgren-statement-ahead-judiciary-committee-markup-tech-antitrust-bills\">statement<\/a>&nbsp;before the bills were marked up in the House Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Lofgren <a href=\"https:\/\/lofgren.house.gov\/\">represents<\/a>&nbsp;California\u2019s 19<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;district, which covers much of Silicon Valley, including San Jose and Apple\u2019s hometown, Cupertino.<\/p>\n<p>Collins did not immediately respond to the DCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
