The poll also found that voters are more likely to trust Republicans in Congress than Democrats to fix the immigration system and secure the border.<\/p>\n<p>The poll was sponsored by The Wall Street Journal, ALG Research, and the firm Fabarazio Lee and conducted between November 15 and November 22.<\/p>\n<p>The poll asked, \u201cWhat is the most important issue that you want the President and U.S. Congress to make a priority?\u201d and left it open-ended \u2014 meaning voters weren\u2019t presented with options to select from. In response, 13% of voters listed some form of an immigration issue as their main concern that they wanted Congress and the president to address.<\/p>\n<p>Voters\u2019 answers included worries about the immigration system, the U.S.-Mexico border or the border in general \u2014 including closing the border \u2014 migrants, and illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p>The poll also asked voters: \u201cBetween the Democrats in Congress and the Republicans in Congress, who in your opinion is BEST ABLE to handle each of the following issues? If you think they are both equally able to handle an issue, or neither is, just say so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A plurality of voters \u2014 41% \u2014 said they thought Republicans in Congress were best able to fix the immigration system while 27% said they trusted Democrats. When asked which political party they thought was best able to secure the border, 52% of respondents said that they thought Republicans were better suited to secure the border and only 16% of respondents said they trusted Democrats in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the findings, Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), tweeted, \u201cIt\u2019s immigration, stupid!\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It\u2019s immigration, stupid! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ov9M2v2z71\">pic.twitter.com\/ov9M2v2z71<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jim Banks (@RepJimBanks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJimBanks\/status\/1468375879617236995?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This past spring, Banks and the RSC <a href=\"https:\/\/banks.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/4.12.21immigration_strat_memo.pdf\">released a memo<\/a> stating that contrary to what the Biden administration had been saying about the border crisis, \u201cwhat is happening at the border is not a natural disaster, but a man-made disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis disaster is the extremely predictable result of the Biden Administration\u2019s inconceivable decision to terminate \u2013 over the profound objections of career law enforcement professionals \u2013 the Trump Administration\u2019s proven border security measures, \u201d the memo continued, \u201cTrump FIXED it, Biden BROKE it. It\u2019s just that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a remedy, the RSC proposed focusing on the following four categories to restore order and secure the border alongside an overhaul of our entire immigration system:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>National Security<\/strong>: Immigration policy should protect our national security by protecting the American people from terrorism, cartels, and other threats to their safety;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>America First:<\/strong> Immigration policy should prioritize American workers first, help grow our middle class, raise wages, and enhance economic opportunity for all lawful residents well;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Rule of Law<\/strong>: Immigration policy should respect the rule of law, along with immigrants that honor our legal immigration processes, rather than incentivize law breaking.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Patriotic Assimilation<\/strong>: Immigration policy should aim to assimilate legal immigrants into the American family so they too can take pride in our values, history, and heritage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since that memo, the Biden administration\u2019s handling of the border has only worsened with individuals<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/migrants-from-106-countries-crossed-southern-border-in-del-rio-sector-in-2021\"> coming to the border<\/a> from all over the world and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/deportations-have-dropped-90-percent-with-biden-in-office\">deportations decreasing<\/a> by 90%.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the ideological makeup of the Journal poll was fairly evenly split and included slightly more Democrats than Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>According to the poll findings, 26% of those polled described themselves as liberal or very liberal, 30% said they were moderate, 40% said conservative or very conservative, and 4% didn\u2019t know or refused to answer.<\/p>\n<p>Forty-two percent of those polled said they leaned Democrat or were Democrat, 40% said they leaned Republican or were Republican, 15% said they were independent or something else, and 3% didn\u2019t know what they were.<\/p>\n<p>The full poll can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/s.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/documents\/Baseline%20Nationwide%20Poll%20Nov%202021.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
