Lee Zeldin (R-NY), a Republican candidate for governor in New York, said on Tuesday\u2019s edition of SiriusXM\u2019s <em>Breitbart News Daily<\/em> with host Alex Marlow that America\u2019s response to Imperial Japan\u2019s attack on Pearl Harbor demonstrated the willingness of the nation\u2019s youth to combat evil.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt was a massive shock that put us in the middle of [World War II],\u201d Zeldin said on the 80th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. \u201cF<\/span><span>ortunately, w<\/span><span>e had these men and women all across this entire country who stepped up, who fought back. This was the start of what was a very successful campaign of the ultimate battle of good&nbsp;<\/span><span>versus evil.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>He continued, \u201cEvil struck that day, but at the end of the day, we triumphed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe live in the greatest nation in the history of the world for many reasons, but it\u2019s not because of how great our elected leaders are today,\u201d he remarked. \u201cIt\u2019s because of decades and generations of those who came before us, and Pearl H<\/span><span>arbor tells that story of just how many young adults answered the call. Whether they were there or they were somewhere else around America, they stood up. They fought back. DAVID AKE\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Zeldin noted Bob Dole\u2019s recent death and the late senator\u2019s military service in World War II \u2014 including being severely wounded and receiving two Purple Hearts \u2014 while reflecting on the Pearl Harbor attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI have a tremendous amount of respect for our nation\u2019s greatest generation [and] what they sacrificed,\u201d he remarked. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He added, \u201c<\/span><span>Bob Dole \u2026 sacrificed personally. He was physically harmed. He then dedicated the rest of his life to fighting for disabled Americans, especially and including disabled veterans.
