Jon Tester (D-MT), became increasingly critical of the Biden nominee as Breitbart News and other organizations revealed her controversial vision for the American banking system.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/27\/exclusive-sen-steve-daines-biden-banking-regulator-nominees-support-of-communist-ideals-disqualifies-her\/\">told<\/a> Breitbart News in late October that Omarova\u2019s support of \u201cCommunist ideals\u201d disqualifies her for the position, a move that pressured Tester to oppose her nomination.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In her academic work, she has called to eliminate all bank accounts and to transfer all bank deposits to \u201cFedAccounts\u201d at the Federal Reserve, the nation\u2019s central bank.<\/p>\n<p>When talking about FedAccounts, the former senior government official said, \u201cThe Democratic Party over the last couple of administrations, they want the government to essentially take over a lot of financial functions from banks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News Economics Editor John Carney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/10\/26\/omarova-bank-killer\/\">noted<\/a> that Omarova would end community banking as we know it if the Senate were to confirm her.<\/p>\n<p>Omarova also called for the creation of a central bank digital currency, or CBDC, that would grant the federal government massive control over Americans\u2019 financial activity.<\/p>\n<p>She even complained once that the \u201cmassive digitization of finance,\u201d which includes digital currencies such as Bitcoin, wrested control over Americans\u2019 money from the government.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Omarova also came under fire after she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/biden-nominee-runs-away-from-her-own-words-to-bankrupt-oil-companies-poor-phrasing\/\">said<\/a> that she wanted to bankrupt fossil fuel companies to facilitate climate change policies.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\" readability=\"12\">\n<p>\u201cA lot of the smaller players in that [coal, oil, and natural gas] industry are going to probably go bankrupt in short order \u2013 at least we want them to go bankrupt if we want to tackle climate change, right?\u201d Omarova added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>During her Senate nomination, she blamed her call to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/biden-nominee-runs-away-from-her-own-words-to-bankrupt-oil-companies-poor-phrasing\/\">eliminate<\/a> the fossil fuel industry on \u201cpoor phrasing.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Omarova also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/11\/18\/omarova-refuses-to-rule-out-a-repeat-of-operation-choke-point\/\">enflamed<\/a> controversy after refusing to pledge not to politicize lending in a manner similar to the Obama administration\u2019s notorious Operation Choke Point.<\/p>\n<p>Carney also wrote an op-ed for Breitbart News, noting that Democrats and establishment media outlets such as <em>New York Magazine<\/em> engaged in a cover-up of her views ahead of her Senate nomination hearing.<\/p>\n<p><em>New York Magazine\u2019s<\/em>&nbsp;puff piece for Omarova said criticisms of her academic work were \u201cludicrous red-baiting.\u201d The establishment outlet also allowed Omarova to mischaracterize her own views, including not quoting from her own papers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Many Senate Democrats claimed that Republicans were \u201cred-baiting\u201d Omarova since she graduated from Moscow State University in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>Omarova has refused to divulge her thesis,&nbsp;\u201cKarl Marx\u2019s Economic Analysis and the Theory of Revolution in<em> The Capital<\/em>,\u201d to the Senate Banking Committee, as Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Pat Toomey has repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/17\/republicans-reveal-biden-banking-nominees-radical-vision-close-americans-bank-accounts\/\">requested<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Senate Democrats\u2019 defense of Omarova, many Democrats remained concerned about her radical views, leading to their opposition to Omarova\u2019s confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>Sens. Tester, Mark Warner (D-VA), and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) called Senate Banking Committee Chairman Sherrod Brown (D-OH) late Wednesday, announcing their opposition to the comptroller nominee. Sens. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) also announced their opposition to her, effectively sinking her confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>Despite bipartisan opposition to her nomination, Brown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press\/release\/brown-statement-occ-confirmation\">claimed<\/a> in a statement Tuesday that Omarova was a victim of \u201cred scare McCarthyism:\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"17\">\n<p>Despite her unquestioned expertise and her bipartisan record, powerful interests distorted Professor Omarova\u2019s views and writings. In a relentless smear campaign reminiscent of red scare McCarthyism, they have shamefully attacked her family, her heritage, and her commitment to American ideals. I am disappointed that these spurious attacks and misrepresentations of Professor Omarova\u2019s views were not resoundingly rejected in a bipartisan manner.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is clear: we need regulators at the OCC and beyond who are not in the pockets of Wall Street \u2013 public servants who will ensure the economy works for everyone, and who will protect our economic recovery from the risky activities of Wall Street and unregulated tech companies.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He added, \u201cI will continue to work with the Biden Administration to fill these posts that are critical to our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Sean Moran is a congressional reporter for Breitbart News.
