Zucker also said that he was \u201ccomfortable with the decisions that [CNN] made\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-cnn-terminates-chris-cuomo-effective-immediately-over-scandal\">Cuomo\u2019s firing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CNN was originally accused of downplaying Cuomo\u2019s role in helping his brother after The Washington Post broke the story that the CNN anchor had been giving his brother advice on how to handle the PR fallout from the sexual harassment allegations. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/chris-cuomo-advised-andrew-cuomo-on-sexual-harassment-allegations-cnn-wont-punish-him\">The Daily Wire<\/a>\u2018s Ben Johnson reported at the time:<\/p>\n<p><em>Both CNN and the governor\u2019s office have downplayed Chris Cuomo\u2019s role in counseling his brother how to handle crisis communications.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe governor only trusts about five people, so that\u2019s why Chris is on these calls,\u201d an adviser to the governor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Post.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>CNN\u2019s statement implied it was aware of his role as an adviser to his brother\u2019s emergency response strategy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cChris has not been involved in CNN\u2019s extensive coverage of the allegations against Governor Cuomo \u2014 on air or behind the scenes. In part because, as he has said on his show, he could never be objective. But also because he often serves as a sounding board for his brother,\u201d the network said in a statement to the newspaper.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHowever, it was inappropriate to engage in conversations that included members of the Governor\u2019s staff, which Chris acknowledges,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cHe will not participate in such conversations going forward.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe network said Cuomo will not be disciplined,\u201d the Post reported.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Zucker defended CNN\u2019s response at the time during the conference Tuesday. \u201cI don\u2019t think that there was no discipline back then,\u201d he said, via The Wrap. \u201cIt was a reprimand, it was a public rebuke and it was a final warning that it could not happen again but I think that is a lesson we have all learned from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that Cuomo should have taken a leave of absence when the sexual harassment allegations first broke and that network executives asked him to take one, but he refused.<\/p>\n<p>Zucker was also asked whether he regretted not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cnn-suspends-cuomo-over-new-info-involving-brother-cuomo-claims-media-never-really-liked-brother\">suspending<\/a> the former \u201cCuomo Prime Time\u201d anchor sooner. \u201cHindsight in all of this is very easy,\u201d Zucker responded, \u201cand I do feel, as I\u2019ve said before, and I said again this morning, this was a very unique situation and so we did allow for some leeway for Chris that, you know, was unique to that situation for somebody in that role with a brother in that role during a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic.
