In November, the department sent 222 notices to department personnel who had not yet submitted their vaccination status or requested an exemption. [\u2026] As of Monday, 83% of the department\u2019s 3,732 employees have been vaccinated, and 321 unvaccinated personnel have filed for an exemption.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The suspensions come after local media recently <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/los-angeles-vaccine-mandate-employees-la-city-eric-garcetti\/11250398\/\">reported<\/a> that&nbsp;77 employees in the city have been placed on unpaid leave for bucking its coronavirus vaccine mandate, and an additional 700 staff members could follow.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe good news is, overwhelmingly city employees have gotten vaccinated \u2026 and I want to be clear the vaccine mandate is not about getting rid of employees. My goal is to keep every employee and to keep every employee safe,\u201d Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/los-angeles-hundreds-of-city-employees-could-soon-be-on-unpaid-leave-over-vaccine-mandate\/\">said<\/a> of the move at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may cost us some money up front but it has cost us a lot of money to lose people to COVID when they\u2019re out. That has cost us arguably even more,\u201d the mayor added.<\/p>\n<p>Garcetti previously&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/10\/los-angeles-garcetti-employees-refuse-covid-vaccination-lose-job-1234859144\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">warned<\/a>&nbsp;that&nbsp;city employees who defy the rules \u201cshould be prepared to lose their job.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One hundred and thirteen Los Angeles firefighters have been suspended without pay for failing to comply with the city\u2019s coronavirus vaccine mandate for employees.
