Arquiett, 56, will remain in office while his case is pending.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Arquiett fully intends to address any issues raised as a consequence of this arrest and plans to continue serving the members of his community while this case proceeds through the criminal justice system,&#8221; Arquiett\u2019s lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nny360.com\/news\/stlawrencecounty\/st-lawrence-county-legislator-charged-with-dwi-and-possesion-of-cocaine\/article_955010ab-a8b9-54c8-8a49-966974a19753.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Arquiett is the latest New York Democrat to be arrested on cocaine charges this year. A Clinton County legislator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mynbc5.com\/article\/clinton-county-legislator-announces-resignation-cites-personal-reasons\/37678595\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resigned<\/a> in September after facing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressrepublican.com\/news\/local_news\/conroy-faces-more-charges\/article_8dbdfb4b-0e87-55b5-9c39-4928a0191073.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of criminal charges, one of which was cocaine possession. Tim Currier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2021\/01\/19\/new-york-mayor-arrested-on-drug-charges-resigns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resigned<\/a> as mayor of Massena in January, a month after he was charged with cocaine possession, tampering with evidence, and failure to comply with an officer.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Elise Stefanik (R., N.Y.) on Tuesday called for Arquiett to resign.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The silence of all North Country Democrats is deafening, and I urge Democrats to demand Arquiett\u2019s resignation now and make clear that drugs have no place in our community, especially among our elected leaders,&#8221; Stefanik said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democrats Rep.
