Tom Cotton blasted President Joe Biden during an interview on Tuesday, arguing Biden has \u201cno plan\u201d to protect American athletics sent to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Cotton shared the remarks during an interview on Fox News\u2019 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/6285632636001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">America\u2019s Newsroom<\/a>\u201d on Tuesday responding to the nation\u2019s diplomatic boycott of the Olympic Games in China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is really nothing more than the sleeves off Joe Biden\u2019s vest. It\u2019s the status quo. China was going to have very strict travel controls anyway on diplomats and corporate officials because of their Draconian coronavirus lockdowns,\u201d Cotton said during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019m worried about is the safety of our athletes. We will not be contributing to the fanfare of the Games\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The D.C.-based outlet Axios&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/us-china-boycott-winter-olympics-beijing-f1df1cb9-0fee-4ca5-96b2-e92456268158.html\">noted,<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cbefore the boycott had been announced, the CCP and state media organizations had claimed that the Biden administration was <a class=\"gtm-content-click\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=by6U1rUlByY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-vars-link-text=\"politicizing the sporting event\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=by6U1rUlByY\" data-vars-event-category=\"story\" data-vars-sub-category=\"story\" data-vars-item=\"in_content_link\">politicizing the sporting event<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the expected boycott, Chinese&nbsp;Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/china-threatens-u-s-over-expected-diplomatic-olympic-boycott-china-will-take-firm-countermeasures\">said<\/a>&nbsp;that China was prepared to take \u201ccountermeasures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout being invited, American politicians keep hyping the so-called diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympic, which is purely wishful thinking and grandstanding,\u201d Zhao said. \u201cIf the U.S. side is bent on going its own way, China will take firm countermeasures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cruz-on-upcoming-beijing-olympics-we-need-to-go-over-there-and-kick-their-commie-aes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also reported<\/a> in November that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told CBS News that he does not support a full boycott of the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing because it would punish U.S. athletes who have trained for years to be able to compete in the games and because the U.S. needs to \u201ckick their commie a**es.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a mistake to have a full boycott of the Olympics. You know, Jimmy Carter tried that in the 1970s. All it did was punish a generation of athletes. We\u2019ve got young men and young women, Americans, who spent their whole lives practicing for this moment,\u201d Cruz <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1462463820618735616\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> \u201cFace The Nation\u201d host Margaret Brennan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to punish those young athletes. What we ought to do \u2014 I do agree with the notion of a so-called diplomatic boycott \u2014 which means we don\u2019t send high-ranking cabinet officials over there,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz instead suggested two things during the Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I also think it\u2019s important we do two things at the Olympics in China,\u201d Cruz continued. \u201cNumber one, that we actually show the courage the Women\u2019s Tennis Association is showing to call out the murder, the genocide, the torture, the lies, the complicity in COVID-19 of the Chinese communist government, to speak the truth. And then number two, I really hope our young men and women that they go over there and kick their commie a**es.
