But also it suggests no one is talking about doing this \u2014 free, widely available tests \u2014 even though many other countries are. Ironically, Biden focused on the testing issue during the 2020 presidential campaign, making it \u201ca major campaign issue,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/05\/28\/us\/politics\/biden-trump-coronavirus-testing.html\">noted<\/a> at the time. In Biden\u2019s coronavirus policy, he declared: \u201cWe are now several months into this crisis, and this administration refuses to own up to the original sin of its failed response \u2014 the failure to test.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration\u2019s first tests failed due to a \u201ctechnical glitch\u201d and the fact that the federal bureaucracy traditionally reserved the development of new tests for itself, rather than allowing the private sector to take the lead. Dr, Anthony Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/487985-fauci-neither-trump-nor-cdc-to-blame-for-testing-delay\">said<\/a> at the time that it was not Trump\u2019s fault that the first tests failed.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. quickly outpaced other countries and has conducted more tests than any other nation, though free, rapid, at-home tests are still unavailable.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
