Angie Craig claimed she could not attend necessary House votes in person&nbsp;due to the \u201congoing public health emergency\u201d but was able to promote the&nbsp;so-called&nbsp;bipartisan infrastructure package with President Joe Biden in her district and attend an NBA game.<\/p>\n<p>Craig <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/legislative\/proxy-letters\/117\/1\/20211130\/Craig-MN02-20211130-05.pdf\">claimed<\/a>&nbsp;she was unable to attend the votes in the House, on November 30, because of the&nbsp;\u201congoing public health emergency\u201d in the world, according to her letter to the Clerk in the House. Craig authorized Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) to cast her vote in the House while she was \u201cunable\u201d to be there in person.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>While Craig was not in the House votes, two votes were missed, <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2021387?Page=2\">H.R. 4026,<\/a> the&nbsp;Social Determinants of Health Data Analysis Act, where she <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/legislative\/proxy-letters\/117\/1\/votes\/2021\/roll387.pdf\">voted<\/a> by proxy through Jacobs for it, and <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2021388?Page=2\">H.R. 550<\/a>, the&nbsp;Immunization Infrastructure Modernization Act, where she also <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/legislative\/proxy-letters\/117\/1\/votes\/2021\/roll388.pdf\">voted<\/a> by proxy for it.<\/p>\n<p>However, on the same night, November 30, Craig said on social media, \u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">It was wonderful to welcome <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">@POTUS&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">to <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">#MN02<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"> today to discuss just how much the bipartisan infrastructure package will benefit our local communities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.5555555555556\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It was wonderful to welcome <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@POTUS<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MN02?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MN02<\/a> today to discuss just how much the bipartisan infrastructure package will benefit our local communities. Since then,&nbsp;Craig has joined the growing list of Democrats to&nbsp;abuse the capability:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL) used the proxy vote,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/05\/28\/charlie-crist-says-he-cannot-vote-in-congress-planned-to-see-space-launch\/\">saying<\/a> he could not vote in Congress but could attend the space launch.<\/li>\n<li>Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-NY) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/05\/28\/phoning-it-in-democrat-thomas-suozzi-switches-to-proxy-voting-midday-because-he-did-not-want-to-attend-procedural-votes\/\">used<\/a> proxy voting after admitting he wanted to return home and spend time with family since it \u201cwould only be suspension vote.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), to save Pelosi\u2019s partisan Capitol security funding bill,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/20\/hypocrisy-dem-jared-golden-saves-pelosis-capitol-security-funding-bill-with-proxy-vote-after-pledging-never-to-vote-by-proxy\/\">switched<\/a> to proxy voting after saying he would not due to \u201cfamily responsibilities.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Rep.&nbsp;Haley Stevens (D-MI), Rep.&nbsp;Elissa Slotkin&nbsp;(D-MI), and Rep. Dan Kildee&nbsp;(D-MI), all members of Michigan\u2019s Democrat Congressional delegation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/21\/michigan-democrats-abuse-proxy-voting-lied-about-reason\/\">claimed<\/a> they were proxy voting due to&nbsp;the&nbsp;\u201congoing public health emergency\u201d but were able to attend President Joe Biden\u2019s visit to their state.<\/li>\n<li>Rep.&nbsp;Ron Kind (D-WI), Rep. Mark Pocan&nbsp;(D-WI), and Rep. Gwen Moore&nbsp;(D-WI),&nbsp;all members Wisconsin\u2019s Democrat Congressional delegation, were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/19\/wisconsin-house-democrats-constantly-abused-proxy-voting-long-weekends\/\">found<\/a> in a report to be abusing their proxy voting privilege, some using it to take off early on the last day of voting for a possible long weekend.<\/li>\n<li>Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/21\/vulnerable-pennsylvania-democrat-susan-wild-abuses-proxy-vote-campaigns-in-florida\/\">claimed<\/a> to be proxy voting due to the coronavirus; however, on the same day,&nbsp;her campaign&nbsp;began paying nearly $1,700 for travel to a 5-star luxury hotel in Miami Beach. She later bragged about voting \u201cyes\u201d on a bill done by proxy.<\/li>\n<li>Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ), whose district houses a military base,&nbsp;used the proxy voting rule to miss the in-person vote on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) but appeared to see his six-year-old child on his birthday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA),&nbsp;earlier this year, during a press conference, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/04\/15\/gop-leader-we-will-end-vote-proxy-when-republicans-regain-the-house\/\">said<\/a>&nbsp;he would end the proxy voting capability when Republicans take back the House in the midterms. He also said the rules in the House under Pelosi do not make any sense, and he has since affirmed his position on that.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, early last year,&nbsp;House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), while making a television appearance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/05\/15\/scalise-house-proxy-voting-rules-unconstitutional-they-will-be-challenged\/\">said<\/a>&nbsp;proxy voting is \u201cunconstitutional,\u201d and any significant pieces of legislation passed under the rules \u201cwill be challenged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
