Ruben Gallego does not allow his staffers to use the term \u201cLatinx\u201d in official communications, he said Monday, in response to a poll on the term\u2019s frequency of use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">When Latino politicos use the term it is largely to appease white rich progressives who think that is the term we use. It is a vicious circle of confirmation bias,\u201d he wrote on Twitter in response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/06\/hispanic-latino-voters-poll-latinx-latina\/\">poll<\/a> finding that only 2% of Latinos use the term to describe themselves. The poll, conducted by Bendixen &amp; Amandi International in November, found that 40% of Latinos were \u201cbothered or offended\u201d by the term, including 20% who were \u201cbothered or offended a lot.\u201d<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.7925696594427\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">To be clear my office is not allowed to use \u201cLatinx\u201d in official communications.<br \/>When Latino politicos use the term it is largely to appease white rich progressives who think that is the term we use. It is a vicious circle of confirmation bias. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kMty6q7UQn\">https:\/\/t.co\/kMty6q7UQn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ruben Gallego (@RubenGallego) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RubenGallego\/status\/1467920180135276554?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 6, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A similar poll conducted in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/05\/poll-hispanic-latinx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August<\/a> found that only 5% of Latinos use the term \u201cLatinx.\u201d That poll found that while the majority of voters did not have a preference on what they were called, they would pick Hispanic if required to choose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">It will not lose you an election but if your staff and consultants use Latinx in your mass communication it likely means they don\u2019t understand the Latino community and is indicative of deeper problems,\u201d Gallego <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RubenGallego\/status\/1467939474575437831\">added<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Republicans are targeting Latino voters with messages about crime and inflation ahead of the 2022 midterms, with National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman Rick Scott <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/10\/rick-scott-national-republican-senatorial-committee-latinos-2022\/\">pinpointing<\/a> the group as the most important demographic for the GOP in the next elections. Republicans have made gains with Latino voters over the last three presidential election cycles, and won a key mayoral race in Texas\u2019 Rio Grande Valley for the first time since 1997. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/12\/joe-biden-mike-garcia-nicole-malliotakis\/\"><strong>(RELATED: \u2018The Messenger Matters\u2019: Latino Republicans Of Congress Reflect On GOP Gains With Hispanics)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Democrats, on the other hand, are increasingly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/29\/jim-messina-joe-scarborough-latino-voters-democratic-party\/\">concerned<\/a> that support for socialism and the Green New Deal is harming their ability to gain Latino votes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf [the GOP\u2019s 2020 inroads with Latinos in south Texas were] not a wake-up call for Democrats, I don\u2019t know what is,\u201d Fabian N\u00fa\u00f1ez, a former speaker of the California state assembly, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/31\/california-democrats-working-class-latinos-gavin-newsom-achilles-heel\/\">said<\/a> in August. \u201cIt\u2019s one thing to lose Florida, it\u2019s another thing to lose Latinos in the Southwest.
