Hunter Biden told <a href=\"https:\/\/news.artnet.com\/art-world\/hunter-biden-gallery-show-1979790\">Artnet News<\/a> in June that he seeks to bring out \u201cthe universal truth\u201d through his artwork.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t paint from emotion or feeling, which I think are both very ephemeral,\u201d Biden said. \u201cFor me, painting is much more about kind of trying to bring forth what is, I think, the universal truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe universal truth is that everything is connected and that there\u2019s something that goes far beyond what is our five senses and that connects us all,\u201d he added. \u201cThe thing that really fascinates me is the connection between the macro and the micro, and how these patterns repeat themselves over and over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Multiple art critics told Politico that Biden\u2019s artwork was fetching extreme valuations because of his name, not his artistic abilities. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/29\/critics-hunter-biden-art-name-prices-high\/\">(RELATED: \u2018What Is Being Sold Is The Biden Name\u2019: Critics Go After Hunter Biden\u2019s Art)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaintings are only as valuable as what some customer will pay for \u2019em,\u201d art critic Geoffrey Young told <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/29\/critics-hunter-biden-art-name-prices-high\/\">Politico<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s complexly famous, but not yet for art. Guess people will pay for a known last name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Numerous ethics experts have raised concerns that buyers of Biden\u2019s artwork are trying to curry favor with the president, but the White House has pledged that the identities of the purchasers have been kept anonymous from both Hunter Biden and his father\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n<p>But ethics experts poked holes in the White House\u2019s pledge after Hunter Biden was spotted at a Los Angeles art gallery in October alongside prospective buyers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shows the deal\u2019s not going to be secret,\u201d said former White House chief ethics lawyer Richard Painter, a Democrat. \u201cI think the White House needs to go to Plan B.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.451410658307\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">200 people showed up.<\/p>\n<p>How many would have attended if his name was Hunter Smith?<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the most underhanded ways a politician\u2019s family has ever devised to funnel money into their pocket based, not on abilities, but on their last name. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BninJmoz22\">https:\/\/t.co\/BninJmoz22<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ari Fleischer (@AriFleischer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AriFleischer\/status\/1446092545335959554?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 7, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBecause we don\u2019t know who is paying for this art and we don\u2019t know for sure that [Hunter Biden] knows, we have no way of monitoring whether people are buying access to the White House,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/deal-of-the-art-white-house-grapples-with-ethics-of-hunter-bidens-pricey-paintings\/2021\/07\/07\/97e0528c-da72-11eb-9bbb-37c30dcf9363_story.html\">Walter Shaub<\/a>, the former head of the Office of Government Ethics. \u201cWhat these people are paying for is Hunter Biden\u2019s last name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not return a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
