Kathy Hochul (D) to combat the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI support a vaccine mandate with a testing option, but why are we still doing this piecemeal? A mandate alone won\u2019t get us out of the crisis particularly when it\u2019s implemented without input from employees and employers,\u201d James <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NickReisman\/status\/1467926401198313472?s=20\">said<\/a> in a Monday statement through her campaign. \u201cScience tells us we need everyone to wear a mask in public settings; accessible at-home testing\u2019 and real public health outreach to our communities. This cannot be done municipality by municipality. New York state must finally lead.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Earlier Monday, De Blasio announced the first-in-the-nation vaccine mandate for private companies, calling the measure a \u201cbold\u201d step in curbing coronavirus infections as the cases of the Omicron variant rise across the United States.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe in New York City have decided to use a preemptive strike to really do something bold to stop a further growth of COVID and the dangers it\u2019s causing to all of us,\u201d De Blasio stated in an interview with MSNBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVaccines work, and vaccine mandates work, particularly when joined with efforts to build vaccine confidence, provide incentives, and improve access, as we have in New York City,\u201d New York City Health Commissioner&nbsp;Dr. Dave Chokshi said in separate remarks.&nbsp;\u201cWe\u2019ve seen this with our health care workers, school staff and public employees.
