Justices recently heard oral arguments over a Mississippi law banning abortions after 15-weeks.<\/p>\n<p>During an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/politics\/2021\/12\/05\/reeves-full-12-5.cnn\">interview<\/a> Sunday, GOP Governor Tate Reeves said there\u2019s \u201csome reason for optimism\u201d the Supreme Court will uphold the 15-week ban and overturn 1973\u2019s Roe v. Wade. Reeves, however, assured if the decision is overturned he plans on enforcing a near total ban of all abortions in his state.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhat it does mean is that all 50 states, the laboratories of democracy, are going to have the ability to enact their own laws with respect to abortion,\u201d he stated. \u201cI think that\u2019s the way it should be in America.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Republican governor\u2019s remarks come as Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) on Sunday said he believes it\u2019s about time abortion law decisions be turned back to the states.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe beauty of our system is that it\u2019s federal, it\u2019s got all of these different ideas,\u201d he stated. \u201cAnd when you try to nationalize, federalize the way the other side of the aisle is doing on more than just this, I think you\u2019re constantly in that area of contention.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bruan also suggested he wouldn\u2019t mind criminalizing abortion, reiterating he\u2019d like to see \u201cabortions eliminated from the landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhatever ones opinion is, whatever you think politically, why try to do it at the national level? asked the senator. \u201cStates do what they wanna do.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During a separate interview on Sunday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said the best way to protect abortions would be to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law. Braun suggested turning the decision back over to the states, however, would let the diversity of America show forth.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, former Vice President Mike Pence said he\u2019s confident Roe v. Wade. will eventually be overturned.
