Wade to be codified into law following last week\u2019s activity of the Supreme Court, where the justices heard arguments regarding a Mississippi pro-life law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) posted an old video of himself as a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/berniesanders\/status\/1467197587677761543?s=10\">candidate<\/a> on Twitter, saying, \u201cThe people of Vermont must have a representative who is a strong and unequivocal supporter of women\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He added, \u201cWe must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land. And so what is the answer? The answer may well be doing it through the political process now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">She added, \u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s the right thing to do but it may be the way to do it and I think the best way to do it is not a patchwork of state laws but to put it, codify Roe v. She has had some conversations with her colleagues about this and is open to further discussions,\u201d a spokeswoman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/gop-sen-susan-collins-supports-codifying-roe-v-wade-abortion-n1285202\">said<\/a>, per NBC News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In September, the House of Representatives voted to pass a bill \u201ccreating a statutory right to abortion,\u201d The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-votes-to-codifying-a-right-to-abortion-without-any-limitations\">reported<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The bill explicitly protects both a woman\u2019s right to procure an abortion and a physician\u2019s right to perform abortions \u201cwithout any number of limitations that states and opponents of the procedure have sought to impose,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/abortion-house-texas-supreme-court\/2021\/09\/24\/d5e731be-1ca2-11ec-a99a-5fea2b2da34b_story.html\">according to The Washington Post.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The measure appears to grant a right to abortion up until the moment a baby is born, though&nbsp;Roe v. Wade&nbsp;guarantees the right to an abortion only through fetal viability, typically between 21 and 24 weeks of pregnancy.&nbsp;The bill,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/24\/politics\/house-vote-women-health-protection-act\/index.html\">CNN noted<\/a>, does not contain a \u201cprohibition on abortion after fetal viability\u201d and leaves the decision of whether to perform a late term-abortion to \u201cthe good-faith medical judgment of the treating health care provider\u201d who could determine that \u201ccontinuation of the pregnancy would pose a risk to the pregnant patient\u2019s life or health,\u201d even if the child is viable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When the Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/why-the-mississippi-abortion-case-is-such-a-big-deal\">agreed<\/a> to hear the Mississippi case, it said it would consider the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/qp\/19-01392qp.pdf\">question<\/a>&nbsp;of \u201cWhether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional,\u201d meaning that with this decision, they could rule that states can make their own laws regarding abortion again \u2014 even possibly banning it up to the point of conception. The high court could give power back to the states to restrict abortion as they were able to do prior to the 1973&nbsp;Roe v. Wade&nbsp;ruling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">There are currently at least 21&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2021\/10\/26-states-are-certain-or-likely-ban-abortion-without-roe-heres-which-ones-and-why\">states<\/a>&nbsp;that have pro-life laws or constitutional amendments that would make them highly likely to move to prohibit almost all abortions in their states if&nbsp;Roe&nbsp;is overturned.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">There are an additional five states that would probably prohibit abortion as soon as they could.
