While the White House has stated that it added measures to the Trump-era policy in an effort to make it more \u201chumane,\u201d activists have argued the measures are an \u201cempty promise.\u201d Reporters pressed Psaki on the topic Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImmigrant rights activists say that the idea that the United States government is going to be able to facilitate lawyers for migrants who want them is an empty promise. What can you say to assure those people that, in fact, you\u2019ll live by that commitment?\u201d a reporter asked. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/28\/mexico-deport-migrants-traveing-north\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Mexico Commits To Deporting Migrants To Their Home Countries)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say first to all of these people that it is not our preference to be reimplementing and reinstituting the Migrant Protection Protocol,\u201d Psaki said. \u201cWe are doing that because of a court order and a legal requirement to do so. Trump first implemented the policy in 2019, and Biden vowed on the campaign trail to dismantle it once he was in office. After doing so, the Biden administration then&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/29\/biden-admin-rescinds-remain-in-mexico-again-despite-court-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">took another crack<\/a> at ending it in late October, only to reimpose a version of it Thursday. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/28\/mexico-deport-migrants-traveing-north\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Mexico Commits To Deporting Migrants To Their Home Countries)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"\/10519169\/dailycaller_inline2\" class=\"ad\" data-google-query-id=\"CP3s477xz_QCFX3j4wcdME4Bvw\" readability=\"13.394402035623\">\n<p>The new policy makes various changes to the Trump-era version, most notably that every asylum seeker will be offered a COVID-19 vaccination, though the administration claims it cannot mandate the vaccine.
