Gavin Newsom\u2019s coronavirus restrictions shutting down churches while apparently allowing mass \u201cprotests\u201d and other secular gatherings. The Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry in Pasadena filed an emergency petition on Nov. 20 arguing that Newsom\u2019s church lockdowns violated their First Amendment\u2026<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/content.jwplatform.com\/players\/AetKtOwv-KBFaAZNI.html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"auto\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry in Pasadena filed an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lc.org\/113020HRCEmergencyApplicationforWritofInjunctionSCOTUS.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emergency petition<\/a>\u00a0on Nov. 20 arguing that Newsom\u2019s church lockdowns violated their First Amendment right to religious freedom.<\/p>\n<p>The church pointed out that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/california-gov-gavin-newsom-caught-attending-party-seems-violate-covid-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Newsom had violated<\/a>\u00a0his own COVID restrictions after he was caught not wearing a mask while attending a group dinner inside a posh Napa County restaurant.<\/p>\n<div id=\"Top-ad\" class=\"sponsor Top\">\n<p class=\"ad-notice flipboard-remove\">Advertisement &#8211; story continues below<\/p>\n<div id=\"Top\" class=\"fixed-size\" data-google-query-id=\"CL6thNTUvO0CFWvu4wcdgnkMzQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/101957818\/Top_CT_LGSX_0__container__\"><iframe id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/101957818\/Top_CT_LGSX_0\" title=\"3rd party ad content\" name=\"google_ads_iframe_\/101957818\/Top_CT_LGSX_0\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" sandbox=\"allow-forms allow-pointer-lock allow-popups allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation allow-presentation\" data-google-container-id=\"3\" data-load-complete=\"true\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Supreme Court reacted Thursday by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/orders\/courtorders\/120320zr_j426.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vacating<\/a>\u00a0an appeals court order that had sided with the governor.<\/p>\n<p>The court remanded the case back down to the appellate court, urging it to use a prior SCOTUS ruling against New York\u2019s COVID restrictions as guidance. In that decision, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/justice-gorsuch-savaged-cuomo-scotus-ruling-protecting-churches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">court blocked<\/a>\u00a0Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s shutdown of religious gatherings and sided with a coalition of Orthodox Jewish groups and Catholics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-extras trending\"><strong>TRENDING:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/suspected-pla-agents-posing-researchers-flee-droves-trump-crackdown\/\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-trending\">Suspected PLA Agents Posing as &#8216;Researchers&#8217; Flee in Droves After Trump Crackdown<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Justice Neil Gorsuch blasted Cuomo in his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/20pdf\/20a87_4g15.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">concurring opinion<\/a>, saying it was hypocritical to allow liquor stores to remain open for business while shutting down churches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governor has chosen to impose no capacity restrictions on certain businesses he considers \u2018essential,&#8217;\u201d Gorsuch wrote. \u201cAnd it turns out the businesses the Governor considers essential include hardware stores, acupuncturists, and liquor stores.
