The nonprofit was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfla.com\/home-for-the-holidays\/tampa-bay-military-veterans-and-families-receiving-holiday-help-through-soldiers-angels\/\">founded<\/a> in 2003 by members of General George Patten\u2019s family, WFLA reports.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>During the holiday season, Soldiers\u2019 Angels Adopt-A-Family program \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/soldiersangels.org\/programs\/family-support\/adopt-a-family-holiday-support\/\">helps<\/a> businesses, organizations, and individuals support qualified military and veteran families that could use some help providing a holiday celebration for their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At a minimum, families will receive gifts for each child and a grocery gift card to assist families with purchasing a holiday meal.<\/p>\n<p>An anonymous donor provided the organization with an undisclosed amount of money to benefit military and veteran families in specific markets, including Tampa Bay, according to WFLA.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>President and CEO of Soldiers\u2019 Angels Amy Palmer told the outlet that the area is getting a lot of assistance this holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitially, we had an anonymous donation that wanted to target specific markets. Tampa was one of those markets,\u201d she said. \u201cBut since then, we\u2019ve had other donors [in] Tampa, specifically, I think because of the outreach in Tampa [and those] that have come forward and wanted to support Tampa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Palmer, who is an Air Force veteran, added:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>It\u2019s a great opportunity for a small business or a church or a civic group to adopt a family, because they can work together to to take a local family. We have a lot of small businesses that will take one family or two families, and then they\u2019ll each bring things together to support that family, which is really great. It\u2019s a great opportunity to serve.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Though the program is meant to be supplemental, Palmer acknowledged that the Adopt-A-Family might be all that some have this holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly, in some cases, it may be their only holiday meal,\u201d she told WFLA. \u201cWe\u2019ve actually had some people that have registered, for the gift items for their kids, that listed undergarments and pajamas and kind of essential things, versus toys, because the kids need those items.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organization welcomes more sponsors, and donors can pick and choose what market they wish to participate in:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p><span>They can go and search by zip code and find local families or even national families\u2026 We have people who adopt families from all over the country. They don\u2019t necessarily have to be in that local market, so we do still encourage people to to go to our website if they\u2019re interested in adopt a family.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\" readability=\"30.202247191011\">Qualified families can <a href=\"https:\/\/soldiersangels.org\/programs\/family-support\/adopt-a-family-holiday-support\/\">apply<\/a> for the program until the December 10 registration deadline.<\/div>\n<p>Eligibility includes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<ul>\n<li>To be eligible for this program as a family of a&nbsp;<strong><em>deployed service member<\/em><\/strong>, the service member must be:\n<ul>\n<li>Registered currently with Soldiers\u2019 Angels for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/soldiersangels.org\/programs\/deployed-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deployed Support<\/a><\/li>\n<li>E1 through E6<\/li>\n<li>Not scheduled to return from deployment prior to December 25, 2021<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate financial need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To be eligible for this program as a family of a&nbsp;<strong><em>Post 9-11 wounded, ill, or injured service member or veteran<\/em><\/strong>, the service member or veteran must have:\n<ul>\n<li>Proof of wound, illness, or injury<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate financial need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To be eligible for this program as a&nbsp;<strong><em>family enrolled in the HUD\/VASH<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;program, the veteran family must be:\n<ul>\n<li>Enrolled in the HUD\/VASH program<\/li>\n<li>Complete a letter of eligibility with your HUD\/VASH caseworker that will validate eligibility and demonstrate financial need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\" readability=\"37\">\n<p>The organization assisted roughly 1,500 families in 2020, and it hopes to reach around 1,700 families in 2021, according to WFLA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An anonymous donor gifted an undisclosed sum to nonprofit organization Soldiers\u2019 Angels to help Tampa Bay area military and veteran families this holiday season.
