According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/in-brief\/coronavirus-disrupt-us-drug-supply-shortages-fda\">Council on Foreign Relations<\/a>, American companies have grown increasingly reliant upon pharmaceutical imports from China and India. As of March 2020, 80% of active pharmaceutical ingredients and 90% of generic medicines come from the two nations.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond pharmaceuticals, the supply chain and labor shortage crises are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/northrop-grumman-ceo-says-labor-shortages-supply-chain-are-threatening-defense-industry\">affecting<\/a> the defense industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I think about the challenges that we all might face going into next year, the labor shortages that we\u2019re seeing are suddenly one that\u2019s top of mind,\u201d said Northrop Grumman CEO Kathy Warden during a CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/03\/northrop-grumman-ceo-warden-on-labor-shortages-omicron-variant.html\">interview<\/a>. \u201cWe have seen an increase in demand for the kinds of skills that we need to support our work at the same time that we\u2019ve seen labor participation rates go down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of industry groups recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trucking-groups-could-lose-37-of-drivers-over-biden-vaccine-mandate-worsening-supply-chain-crisis\">warned<\/a> that the Biden administration\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine and testing mandate will worsen the supply chain crisis by barring some truck drivers from the job market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe estimate companies covered by the mandate could lose 37% of drivers at a time when the nation is already short 80,000 truck drivers,\u201d they explained. \u201cWe ask for flexibility for transportation and supply chain essential workers, particularly truck drivers who spend most of their time in their trucks and have minimal contact with colleagues and customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, President Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-on-supply-chain-crisis-remember-cabbage-patch-kids-back-in-the-80s-or-beanie-babies-in-the-90s?itm_source=parsely-api\">told<\/a> Americans that the supply chain crisis is not as significant as they might think.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019ve watched the news recently, you might think the shelves in all our stores are empty across the country, that parents won\u2019t be able to get presents for their children on holidays \u2014 this holiday season.
