However, after his postgame comments Thursday night, it\u2019s pretty clear he thinks he should have played.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Cowboys 27-17 victory over the Saints, Cooper analogized Michael Jordan\u2019s famed \u201cFlu Game\u201d in explaining why he thinks he could have played with the virus.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt was tough,\u201d Cooper told the media. \u201c[Michael] Jordan played with the flu. That\u2019s how I looked at it. It was a restriction of not being able to play with what I had. However, Pro Football Talk\u2019s Mike Florio raises an interesting point regarding whether the NFL may change its stance on allowing unvaccinated players who test positive to play.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>As Florio <a href=\"https:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2021\/12\/03\/amari-cooper-on-the-rules-against-playing-with-covid-michael-jordan-played-with-the-flu\/\">writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"18\">\n<p>The virus transmits much more easily indoors. The NFL has believed from the outset of the pandemic that it\u2019s extremely difficult if not impossible for a player to transfer enough virus to another player in an open-air setting, or in a dome with state-of-the-art ventilation driven by the possibility of an aerosolized terrorist attack.<\/p>\n<p>At what point will the NFL allow players who test positive but who have no symptoms to play? At what point will the NFL allows players who test positive and who have symptoms to play?<\/p>\n<p>Every year, players play with a cold. They play with the flu. They do it because the rules don\u2019t prohibit it. When, then, will the NFL\u2019s COVID protocols evolve to a similar point?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Florio points out that, due to information he received from a source, the league\u2019s hesitancy in relaxing its standards has more to do with therapeutics than vaccines. Probably not. But until a cure arrives, the restrictions will likely remain in place.<\/p>\n<p>As for Jordan\u2019s \u201cFlu Game,\u201d Jordan\u2019s former personal trainer Tim Grover <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/gameon\/2013\/04\/18\/michael-jordan-food-poisoning-flu-game-chicago-bulls\/2093631\/\">revealed<\/a> years ago that the NBA legend actually suffered from food poisoning during his 37-point iconic performance against the Jazz in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals, not the flu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper missed two games due to a positive coronavirus test.
