Scott Walker, a Republican, in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Since taking over the governor\u2019s seat, however, Evers\u2019 term has not been without turmoil. The Wisconsin Democrat faced waves of criticism in 2020 both for stringent coronavirus policies and for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/has-tony-evers-learned-his-lesson-wisconsin-kenosha-national-guard-kyle-rittenhouse-trial-verdict-11637189602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">focusing<\/a> more on race relations and less on maintaining law and order after deadly riots broke out in Kenosha following a police officer shooting Jacob Blake.<\/p>\n<p>The upheaval in his state has continued to dominate headlines between the exoneration of Kyle Rittenhouse \u2014 who killed two of his attackers during one of last year\u2019s riots \u2014 and the Waukesha parade tragedy, where a man with an extensive criminal background out on bail allegedly drove an SUV into a parade, killing seven people.<\/p>\n<p>Cook cited a Marquette Law School poll that showed Evers\u2019 approval rating \u201cin the danger zone for an incumbent,\u201d at 45 percent approval and 46 percent disapproval.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost damning for Evers though was when the poll asked whether he should be re-elected,\u201d Cook noted. \u201cOnly 40% said&nbsp;<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">definitely\/probably, while 53% said they\u2019d definitely\/probably vote for someone else. \u2026<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&nbsp;These are numbers an incumbent&nbsp;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">doesn\u2019t want a year out from the midterms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The leading GOP challenger to Evers, former Lt. Gov. Her critics accused her of hypocrisy after she was caught repeatedly failing to follow her own rules.<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">&nbsp;In one instance, the governor&nbsp;<\/span>quietly&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/20\/florida-private-jet-scandal-threatens-gretchen-whitmers-political-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chartered<\/a>&nbsp;a private jet to Florida so she could visit her father just before warning spring breakers not to travel. In another, Whitmer was&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/23\/exclusive-photo-gretchen-whitmer-violates-own-coronavirus-orders-at-dive-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">caught<\/a> at a dive bar with a large group and was&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricLloyd\/status\/1396558190565859330?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">forced<\/a>&nbsp;to apologize for directly violating her own capacity mandate. In October, she was spotted in D.C. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/27\/michigan-gov-gretchen-whitmer-bucks-mask-mandate-at-d-c-bar-before-skipping-campaign-event-for-mcauliffe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">violating<\/a> the mask mandate there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Cook noted that former Detroit Police Chief James Craig \u201clooks like an early favorite\u201d but added that the primary field remains \u201cmuddled\u201d with other candidates and potential candidates, including conservative commentator Tudor Dixon and wealthy businessman Kevin Rinke.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Gov. Steve Sisolak in Nevada is also facing a tougher contest, according to Cook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to consider Nevada\u2019s overall competitiveness and Sisolak\u2019s own poll numbers, which back in October showed him underwater,\u201d the outlet stated, adding that the stunningly successful Republican victories and near-victories in Virginia and New Jersey this year \u201cunderscored the bad environment\u201d for Democrats, \u201cwhich is even more of an issue in a state&nbsp;Biden only carried by 2.4 points.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/13\/poll-sheriff-joe-lombardo-shows-double-digit-lead-in-nevada-gubernatorial-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leading<\/a> in the polls at this stage for Republicans, ahead of former Sen. Dean Heller and Las Vegas City Councilwoman Michele Fiore.<\/p>\n<p>Maine has moved from \u201clikely D\u201d to \u201clean D,\u201d which bodes well for former Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who is seeking to unseat Democrat Gov. Janet Mills next year. Cook noted of its new rating in the Pine Tree State that LePage is backed by Sen.
