When a teacher reported him for googling ammo, his mother texted, \u201cLOL. I&#8217;m not mad. You have to learn not to get caught.\u201d And they didn\u2019t remove his gun despite violent drawings begging for help. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/habKhAIKL6\">pic.twitter.com\/habKhAIKL6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Shannon Watts (@shannonrwatts) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/shannonrwatts\/status\/1466829700135751682?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 3, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the charges, McDonald <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wxyz.com\/news\/oxford-school-shooting\/oxford-high-school-on-lockdown-due-to-active-shooting-situation-reports-of-multiple-victims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a> the student had been found searching for ammunition on his cell phone on November 21 during class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn November 21st, 2021, a teacher at the Oxford High School observed Ethan Crumbley searching ammunition on his cell phone during class and reported the same to school officials. [The student\u2019s mother] was contacted via voicemail by school personnel regarding the son\u2019s inappropriate internet search,\u201d McDonald said during the press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchool personnel indicate they followed that voicemail with an email, but received no response from either parent,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Further, McDonald shared that a text message between the student and his mother included at least one message about the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThereafter, [the mother] exchanged text messages about the incident with her son on that day, stating, \u2018Lol, I\u2019m not mad at you, you have to learn not to get caught,\u201d McDonald said.<\/p>\n<p>During the press conference, McDonald also stated the student was found composing a graphic drawing on the same day as the shooting.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOn November 30, 2021, the morning of the shooting, the next day, [the student\u2019s] teacher came upon a note on [the student\u2019s] desk which alarmed her to the point that she took a picture of it on her cell phone. The note contained the following: a drawing of a semi-automatic handgun pointing at the words, quote, \u2018The thoughts won\u2019t stop. Help me,\u2019 end quote.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn another section of the note was a drawing of a bullet with the following words above that bullet, quote, \u2018Blood everywhere,\u2019 end quote. Between the drawing of the gun and the bullet is a drawing of a person who appears to have been shot twice and bleeding. Below that figure is a drawing of a laughing emoji. Further down the drawing are the words, quote, \u2018My life is useless,\u2019 end quote, and to the right of that are the words, quote, \u2018The world is dead,\u2019 end quote.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>As a result, [parent\u2019s names] were immediately summoned to the school. A school counselor came to the classroom and removed the shooter and brought him to the office with his backpack.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>McDonald reported the parents did not want to take their son home at the time, and he was allowed to return to the classroom.
