It is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/91\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNESCO World Heritage site<\/a> spanning Rome\u2019s historic center, which includes the Pantheon and other ancient Roman landmarks.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of social media users have been sharing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=3111413615754466&amp;set=gm.223860549887213https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=3111413615754466&amp;set=gm.223860549887213\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> of what looks like a tooth that features an intricate design resembling the Colosseum. The caption identifies it as the \u201cRoman Colosseum carved into a real tooth.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2019\/11\/15\/fact-check-meme-interpreter-donald-trump-ancient-rome-mattarella\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Meme Allegedly Shows An Italian Interpreter Reacting To Trump Saying The US And Italy \u2018Have Been Allies Since Ancient Rome\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But, contrary to this claim, the image does not show an actual tooth with a replica of the famous Roman landmark carved into it. The same image <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illusion.co.th\/maxam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can be found<\/a> on the website of the Thailand-based CGI studio Illusion, where the studio indicates it is a piece of CGI artwork created as part of an advertising campaign for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxam-sh.com\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maxam<\/a>, a Shanghai-based company that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxam-sh.com\/product.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">produces<\/a> toothpaste.<\/p>\n<p>Illusion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B3eVJCIgWAe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also posted<\/a> the piece on its Instagram account in 2019, including hashtags in the caption such as \u201c#cgi,\u201d \u201c#digitalart\u201d and \u201c#illustration.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B3eVJCIgWAe\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" readability=\"-7.8461538461538\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>Illusion told Check Your Fact in an email that it is \u201cdone in full CGI and no real tooth was involved.\u201d A similar work that Illusion created for the campaign features an Egyptian temple\u2019s facade virtually carved into a digital tooth. The designs won awards in 2012 and 2013,&nbsp; Illusion\u2019s website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illusion.co.th\/maxam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">notes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Subterranean portions of the Colosseum called the \u201chypogea\u201d opened to tourism for the first time ever earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/travel\/article\/colosseum-rome-underground-hypogea\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a> reported.
