Chuck Grassley (R-IA) shut down a Democrat gun control push Thursday, saying it would not prevent shootings but would hamper the law-abiding in exercising Second Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Guardian<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2021\/dec\/02\/republican-senator-blocks-gun-control-law-chuck-grassley\">notes<\/a>&nbsp;the push came from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), who sought&nbsp;\u201cunanimous consent on Thursday to pass the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021.\u201d The Act would expand retail background checks so as to include private gun sales as well.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Murphy pointed to the November 30, 2021, Oxford High shooting in pushing for the passage of the gun control. At that time, Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/11\/house-passes-democrat-bill-criminalizing-private-gun-sales\/\">pointed out<\/a> that bill would&nbsp;criminalize an individual who sells a 5-shot revolver to a lifelong neighbor, unless that neighbor first undergoes a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check, conducted by the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2021\/dec\/02\/republican-senator-blocks-gun-control-law-chuck-grassley\">admitted<\/a>&nbsp;the universal background checks might not have stopped the Oxford High shooting, but suggested such checks \u201c[save]&nbsp;lives, decreases gun violence, [and] decreases violent crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Colorado has universal background checks, yet&nbsp;Ahmad Alissa, 21 of Arvada, CO,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/23\/alleged-boulder-colorado-gunman-ahmad-alissa\/\">allegedly opened fire<\/a>&nbsp;on customers at a Boulder grocery store on March 22, 2021.
