Joe Manchin came out against President Joe Biden\u2019s vaccine mandate for large businesses late Thursday, saying he would vote against the measure when it likely comes up next week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me be clear, I do not support any government vaccine mandate on private businesses,\u201d Manchin <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sen_JoeManchin\/status\/1466596918054690820?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cThat\u2019s why I have cosponsored and will strongly support a bill to overturn the federal government vaccine mandate for private businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have long said we should incentivize, not penalize, private employers whose responsibility it is to protect their employees from COVID-19,\u201d Manchin said, going on to strongly encourage West Virginians to get vaccinated and touting the shots\u2019 safety and efficacy.<\/p>\n<p>Manchin\u2019s opposition to the mandate may give the measure enough votes to pass the 50-50 Senate, given that Republicans are unanimously against it. Mike Braun, who praised Manchin\u2019s opposition Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that more Democratic Senators and Representatives will follow Senator Manchin\u2019s strong lead and stand up against this federal overreach that will wreak havoc on our recovering economy and trample on the rights of millions of Americans,\u201d Braun said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatorBraun\/status\/1466612295140839426\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Manchin\u2019s opposition to the vaccine mandate for large companies, he voted against an identical amendment tied to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/02\/government-shutdown-averted-after-senate-passes-short-term-funding-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stopgap funding bill<\/a> that cleared Congress Thursday.
