The announcement seemed to vindicate President Joe Biden\u2019s decision, several days before, to announce a travel ban from South Africa and several other neighboring African countries.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, there are no direct flights to California from South Africa, suggesting that the individual had to connect through another airport, where he or she may have exposed others to the virus \u2014 or, alternatively, where he or she could have been exposed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The White House did not say, nor did reporters ask, where the traveler had connected through, or how long they had stayed there. A comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-12-02\/how-san-francisco-confirmed-1st-u-s-omicron-case-so-quickly\">report<\/a> in the&nbsp;<em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> included many new details but also omitted the connection point.<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News contacted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The CDC referred inquiries to the CDPH; the CDPH responded that it \u201ccannot provide or confirm this information due to patient confidentiality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Searches on travel websites indicate that any number of cities could have been the connecting point for the traveler \u2014 in Europe, in the Middle East, or on the East Coast of the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Several other Omicron variant cases have since been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/coronavirus-live-updates\/2021\/12\/02\/1060883099\/minnesota-omicron-variant-confirmed-new-york-city-traveler\">identified<\/a> in the U.S., several of which did not involve any travel.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa has protested the travel ban as overly harsh and hasty, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/south-africas-ramaphosa-slams-pandemic-health-apartheid\/\">calling<\/a> it \u201chealth apartheid.\u201d United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made similar remarks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/africa\/2021\/12\/02\/u-n-denounces-bidens-south-africa-ban-travel-apartheid\/\">calling<\/a> Biden\u2019s policy and similar policies elsewhere \u201ctravel apartheid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
