People in Beijing, President Xi Jinping in particular, should never have a misunderstanding in recognizing this,\u201d Abe said.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cAn assault on Taiwan poses great danger to Japanese territory. Japan would not allow such a scenario,\u201d he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/japan-shinzo-abe-fires-direct-warning-china-xi-jinping-taiwan-1654770\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cJapan, Taiwan and all the people who believe in democracy need to keep urging President [sic] Xi Jinping and other Chinese Communist Party leaders repeatedly not to step onto a wrong path,\u201d he advised.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Abe warned China that invading Taiwan would be tantamount to \u201ceconomic suicide.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cA stronger Taiwan, a thriving Taiwan, and a Taiwan that guarantees freedom and human rights are also in Japan\u2019s interests. Of course, this is also in the interests of the whole world,\u201d he concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Abe might have been deliberately needling Beijing with his choice of words since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is very fond of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/content\/1195083.shtml\"><span>saying<\/span><\/a><span> anyone who disagrees with its agenda is following the \u201cwrong path.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>If trolling China was Abe\u2019s goal on Wednesday, he clearly succeeded. The Chinese Foreign Ministry <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202112\/1240460.shtml\"><span>summoned<\/span><\/a><span> Japan\u2019s ambassador for an \u201cemergency meeting\u201d over Abe\u2019s comments within hours of the forum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Chinese officials, the Foreign Ministry lectured Japanese Ambassador Tarumi Hideo about Abe\u2019s \u201cerroneous\u201d remarks, which \u201copenly challenged China\u2019s sovereignty and gave brazen support to Taiwan independence forces.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>At a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said China\u2019s summons of the ambassador was inappropriate. He said Tarumi responded by telling the Chinese they must understand \u201cthere are people in Japan who have such opinions and Japan cannot accept China\u2019s one-sided views on such matters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>At a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmprc.gov.cn\/mfa_eng\/xwfw_665399\/s2510_665401\/2511_665403\/202112\/t20211201_10460734.html\"><span>press conference<\/span><\/a><span> on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said Abe \u201cbabbled utter nonsense\u201d and \u201cmade presumptuous remarks about China\u2019s internal affairs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTaiwan is China\u2019s sacred territory, where no external interference shall be tolerated. During its colonial rule over Taiwan for half a century, Japan committed innumerable crimes, over which it has grave historical responsibilities to the Chinese people,\u201d Wang thundered.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cNo one should underestimate the strong resolve, determination and capability of the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Those who dare to pursue the old path of militarism and challenge our bottom line will find themselves on a collision course with the Chinese people!\u201d he threatened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a comment that appears to have been deleted from the Foreign Ministry\u2019s official transcript of his press conference, Wang <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/china-threatens-crack-skulls-after-japans-shinzo-abe-speaks-taiwan-1655198\"><span>added<\/span><\/a><span> that anyone who crosses China\u2019s \u201cred lines\u201d will \u201chave their heads broken and bloodied\u201d \u2013 a phrase taken from a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/07\/01\/xi-jinping-vows-to-bash-the-heads-of-foreign-bullies-utterly-defeat-taiwan\/\"><span>belligerent speech<\/span><\/a><span> given by dictator Xi Jinping to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party in July.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The CCP\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202112\/1240448.shtml\"><i><span>Global Times<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span>pitched in with a blustery editorial on Thursday warning Abe that he was \u201cplaying with fire\u201d by antagonizing China.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAbe may have wanted to say these evil words for quite a long time. But Japanese authorities by no means dare to roar like this against China. Abe could only flaunt such nonsense to please himself after leaving office \u2013 and this reflects his anxiety and sense of loss on his downward path. If Japan adopts such a policy regarding the island of Taiwan, it would be Japan\u2019s suicide, and not just an economic one,\u201d the Chinese state newspaper sputtered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRight-wing politicians in Japan should be aware that the balance of power between China and Japan has completely reversed. The old dream that Japan could colonize and bully China should be cut off,\u201d the <\/span><i><span>Global Times <\/span><\/i><span>sneered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After ranting for a while about Abe\u2019s supposed genetic links to Japanese imperialists, the hyperventilating <\/span><i><span>Global Times <\/span><\/i><span>returned to threats: \u201cAbe said China\u2019s national defense budget is four times higher than Japan\u2019s.
