On Jan. 22\u2014two days after Biden&#8217;s inauguration\u2014the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gasbuddy.com\/charts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>average price<\/span><\/a><span> for a gallon of gas stood at $2.40. The United States alone consumed an average of 18 million barrels of oil per day in 2020, meaning Biden released enough oil to last less than three days. While the White House said the move reflected the president&#8217;s &#8220;commitment to do everything in his power to bring down costs for the American people,&#8221; Biden <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/23\/joe-biden-says-oil-release-wont-solve-gas-problems-overnight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>acknowledged<\/span><\/a><span> that it would not &#8220;solve the problems of high gas prices&#8221; anytime soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This is not the first time Democrats have attempted to tout modest price decreases as they face backlash from voters over widespread inflation.
