The World Health Organization (WHO) on Nov. 26 designated the new variant of coronavirus as a \u201cvariant of concern,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/28-11-2021-update-on-omicron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WHO press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, numerous Facebook users are sharing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/3068849170068904\/posts\/3197811083839378\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> supposedly showing the poster for a decades-old movie called \u201cThe Omicron Variant,\u201d a seeming foreshadowing of the new coronavirus strain. One Facebook page that shared it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/battleofneworleansdocumentary\/photos\/a.703030159733160\/4618133391556131\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commented<\/a>, \u201cAn Italian movie from 1963\u2026 you can\u2019t make this sh\/t up.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amp.checkyourfact.com\/2021\/11\/30\/fact-check-world-economic-forum-report-omicron-variant-july\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(Related: Did The World Economic Forum Report On The Omicron Variant In July?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The movie poster has been photoshopped to include the title \u201cThe Omicron Variant.\u201d Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found a picture of a Spanish-language version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todocoleccion.net\/cine-posters-carteles\/sucesos-iv-fase-poster-cartel-original-nigel-davenport-phase-iv-phase-four-saul-bass-jano~x203462772#sobre_el_lote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">actual poster<\/a>, which sports the title \u201cSucesos En La IV Fase.\u201d The text about the award and the credits at the bottom in the doctored poster match those at the bottom of the genuine poster.<\/p>\n<p>The real poster promotes a movie titled \u201cPhase IV.\u201d Here\u2019s how IMDb <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0070531\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">describes<\/a> the plot of the film: \u201cDesert ants suddenly form a collective intelligence and begin to wage war on the inhabitants.
