Version: 4.0.47--><p class=\"p1\">The House of Representatives is set to vote on a measure Thursday that would prevent a government shutdown before Friday\u2019s deadline, but some Republicans could still stand in the way of getting it through the Senate due to concerns over Biden\u2019s vaccine mandates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/lawmakers-reach-agreement-fund-us-government-through-feb-18-statement-2021-12-02\/\">reported<\/a> by Reuters:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Democratic-controlled House voted to begin debate on the bill, which would extend funding through Feb. 18, and vote on passage to give the Senate time to do the same before a midnight Friday deadline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis is a good compromise that allows an appropriate amount of time for both parties in both chambers to finish negotiations on appropriations,\u201d Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reportedly remarked on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While the House might vote to pass the measure on Thursday, the Senate could reportedly still create some obstacles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Some Republicans are against a deal if it does not include a way to push back against the Biden Administration\u2019s overreaching vaccination mandates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/congressional-republicans-using-legislative-process-threat-of-shutdown-to-challenge-biden-vaccine-mandates\">reported<\/a> on Wednesday, \u201cCongressional Republicans are planning to use an array of legislative tools, including the threat of a government shutdown, to challenge the Biden administration\u2019s vaccine mandates, according to a report from Politico.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause the Senate is running on an incredibly small clock \u2013 funding officially expires Friday \u2013 and because Senate rules require unanimous consent to move the bill forward at an expedited pace, conservative senators believe they can drag out debate past the expiration of funding,\u201d The Daily Wire reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI\u2019m sure we would all like to simplify the process for resolving the CR, but I can\u2019t facilitate that without addressing the vaccine mandates,\u201d Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) said in a statement to Politico. \u201cGiven that federal courts across the country have raised serious issues with these mandates, it\u2019s not unreasonable for my Democratic colleagues to delay enforcement of the mandates for at least the length of the continuing resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lee \u201csaid on the Senate floor that if he and other Republican senators got a vote on whether to include funding for vaccine mandates in the upcoming government appropriations bill, they might not delay the government funding bill,\u201d Reuters noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAll I\u2019m asking for is a vote. It would take 15 minutes, we could do it right now,\u201d Lee noted, adding that he and more Republican senators in favor of the move desire a simple majority on the amendment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) made similar comments to CNBC on Thursday morning. \u201cAll we want is a vote,\u201d he said, adding he wants senators to have to \u201cput their cards on the table\u201d on whether they support the mandate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Schumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/02\/government-shutdown-house-strikes-deal-on-funding-bill.html\">criticized<\/a> Republican senators for possibly creating an \u201cunnecessary and dangerous\u201d shutdown. He said, \u201cI hope cooler heads will prevail on the other side so we can keep the government funded before tomorrow\u2019s deadline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/02\/government-shutdown-house-strikes-deal-on-funding-bill.html\">said<\/a> he doesn\u2019t believe \u201cshutting down the government over this issue is going to get an outcome,\u201d noting the vaccine mandate has been challenged and come up against obstacles in federal courts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe\u2019re not going to shut the government down,\u201d said McConnell. \u201cThat makes no sense for anyone. Almost no one on either side thinks that\u2019s a good idea.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Thursday, President Joe Biden told the press he spoke with Schumer and McConnell about avoiding a shutdown.
