Marco Rubio (R-FL) that would ban Chinese imports made with Uyghur-slave labor, claiming it was a \u201cpoison pill\u201d holding up the advancement of annual must-pass defense legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Rubio amendment is a poison pill in the sense that it blows up the bill,\u201d Schumer said during a rant on the Senate floor.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Senate Republicans and even Democrats have criticized Schumer for waiting so long to bring the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to the Senate floor for a vote. The defense bill authorizes the Pentagon\u2019s yearly budget and its activities and is considered must-pass legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have objected to Schumer now wanting to pass the NDAA with a limited number of amendments, but on Wednesday there were negotiations with Schumer on a list of 25 amendments that all 100 senators could unanimously consent to adding to the NDAA.<\/p>\n<p>However, Rubio objected to the move since his amendment was not included in the list. Rubio\u2019s amendment would effectively ban the import of solar panels made with Uyghur slave labor in China, and is reportedly opposed by the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_17096738\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"41\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1232439030-e1626284946688.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17096738\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1232439030-e1626284946688.jpg\" alt=\"Senator Marco Rubio, R-FL, speaks during a Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, April 21, 2021. (Photo by GRAEME JENNINGS\/POOL\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Schumer claimed that Rubio\u2019s amendment, if attached to the NDAA, would kill it altogether since it would produce revenue and any bill that produces revenue would have to come from the House, and the House would kill the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer said on the Senate floor:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"16\">\n<p>The senator from Florida stood in the way of us moving forward. The Senate rules\u2026allow any one senator to block us from moving forward and the senator from Florida insisted on his amendment. The irony, the sort of absurdity and the sadness of this is if his amendment were on the bill, it would automatically kill the bill. Because it would be what\u2019s called \u2018blue-slipped\u2019 I the House, which means that any bill that produces revenue must start from the House and the House will kill a bill that has an amendment that contains it.<\/p>\n<p>Can you get more absurd than this? It makes no sense, no sense whatsoever, I would ask Marco Rubio to sleep on this overnight.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rubio blasted that argument in a Senate floor speech, saying Democrats are broadly interpreting the clause in the Constitution about revenue generation starting in the House to prevent his amendment from being included in the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can just apply it to anything they don\u2019t like. And so this is really not about revenue generating\u2026This is about the fact that they don\u2019t want the bill to pass over in the House,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.8350515463918\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Senator Rubio continues fighting to end slave labor in China and Democratic leaders keep objecting.<\/p>\n<p>Watch \u1f44 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LlGMWvL07v\">pic.twitter.com\/LlGMWvL07v<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Rubio Press (@SenRubioPress) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenRubioPress\/status\/1466236734304407552?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rubio noted his bill to ban the import of goods made with Uyghur slave labor already passed in the Senate earlier this year with bipartisan support, but that the House version of his bill has been held up in the House, reportedly due to pressure from Biden\u2019s climate czar John Kerry.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry has publicly voiced concern the bill would prompt China not to cooperate on climate change, but there is also evidence Kerry has financial ties to Chinese companies that produce solar panels with Uyghur slave labor, as reported by Breitbart News and other outlets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rubio also cited companies such as Apple and Nike that have also lobbied against the bill. \u201cThey make a lot of money by making stuff by people who aren\u2019t paid to make it. And they\u2019re lobbying against this thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is the House doesn\u2019t want to pass this or at least some people over there don\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cIf this was a revenue issue\u2026pass the House version of our bill and send it over here and it becomes the law. \u2026 You know why they haven\u2019t done that? Because they\u2019re not for this. They\u2019re not for it. And they wield the blue slip thing to mean whatever they want it to mean,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Republicans voiced support for Rubio.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), chairman of the Republican Study Committee, tweeted, \u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Just goes to show that that Chuck Schumer is not at all interested in holding China accountable.
