Trump\u2019s signature immigration policy \u2014 the Migrant Protection Protocols \u2014 most well-known as the \u201cRemain in Mexico\u201d deal.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-reinstating-trump-era-remain-in-mexico-immigration-policy-after-court-forces-admin-to-do-so\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported that the Department of Homeland Security announced they would comply with a federal court order that demanded the U.S. re-engage in the Remain in Mexico agreement created under President Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn compliance with the court order, we are working to reimplement MPP as promptly as possible,\u201d DHS spokesperson Marsha Espinosa said last week. \u201cWe cannot do so until we have the independent agreement from the Government of Mexico to accept those we seek to enroll in MPP. We will communicate to the court, and to the public, the timing of reimplementation when we are prepared to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-reinstating-trump-era-remain-in-mexico-immigration-policy-after-court-forces-admin-to-do-so\">reported<\/a> that \u201cU.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk ruled back in August that the Biden administration had not given ample reason for terminating the policy. The administration later appealed the decision at the Supreme Court and were again denied in their attempts to undue it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-administration-ready-re-implement-trump-era-remain-mexico-policy\">reported<\/a> that DHS released the following statement:<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\"><em>\u201cAs required by a federal court order, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been working in good faith to re-implement the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program,\u201d the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement. \u201cToday, in coordination with the Departments of State and Justice, DHS announced key changes to MPP to address humanitarian concerns raised by the Government of Mexico and shared by the U.S. Government.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Remain in Mexico policy was a \u201cU.S. Government action whereby certain foreign individuals entering or seeking admission to the U.S. from Mexico \u2013 illegally or without proper documentation \u2013 may be returned to Mexico and wait outside of the U.S. for the duration of their immigration proceedings, where Mexico will provide them with all appropriate humanitarian protections for the duration of their stay,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2019\/01\/24\/migrant-protection-protocols\">according<\/a> to DHS.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the policy was to cut down on illegal aliens who were defrauding the asylum system and to weaken \u2018coyotes\u2019 \u2014 human smugglers\u2019 \u2014 ability to guarantee passage into the U.S. Prior to the policy, asylum seekers were allowed to reside in the U.S. and trusted to show up for their court hearings to determine the validity of their cases and requests for residence in America.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/\/timothymeads\/2019\/06\/12\/report-90-of-asylum-seekers-skip-their-court-hearings-n2548010\">testified<\/a> before the Senate that in some cases nearly 90% of asylum seekers failed to show up for the designated court date.<\/p>\n<p>Remain in Mexico was created and quickly became \u201cone of the most important and effective tools we have implemented to confront the crisis,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/one-year-remain-mexico-policy-migrants-confront-danger-instability-n1124786\">according<\/a> to former DHS spokeswoman Heather Swift.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-administration-ready-re-implement-trump-era-remain-mexico-policy\">noted<\/a> that \u201cThe Biden administration is now working to end the policy in a way that would not be subject to legal challenge \u2014 including having conducted a full review of the effects of ending the program \u2014 but in the meantime is re-implementing the policy. \u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
