As part of her campaign, MacRae railed against Critical Race Theory and expressed her opposition to transgender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Boston Herald, one of her videos in question <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2021\/12\/01\/fired-massachusetts-teacher-sues-district-after-she-was-axed-over-tiktok-videos\/\">stated<\/a> the following:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSo pretty much the reason I ran for school board and the reason I\u2019m taking on this responsibility is to ensure that students, at least in our town, are not being taught critical race theory. That they\u2019re not being taught that the country was built on racism.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSo they\u2019re not being taught that they can choose whether or not they want to be a girl or a boy,\u201d she added in the video. \u201cIt\u2019s one thing to include and it\u2019s one thing to be inclusive. And it\u2019s one thing to educate everybody about everything. It\u2019s completely another thing to push your agenda. And, with me on the school board, that won\u2019t happen in our town.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In September, in response to these videos and victory, the Bourne Educators Association demanded that MacRae resign from her position on the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst and foremost it\u2019s about our students, and we have a number of students that are in the LGBTQ+ community,\u201d Ann-Marie Strode, president of the BEA and a local teacher, told Boston.com.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs educators, it\u2019s important we stand for our students. They are in a vulnerable position at this age in trying to figure out who they are, and where they\u2019re going, and what they\u2019re doing,\u201d she added. \u201cThe memes that were posted were really anti-transgender \u2014 there was a pattern of that \u2014 and as a union, we had to stand for our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boston.com also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local-news\/2021\/09\/24\/bourne-school-committee-kari-macrae-refuses-to-resign\/\">noted<\/a> that MacRae\u2019s campaign promised she wouldn\u2019t \u201cuse they\/them pronouns to refer to an individual, only their name, because she\u2019s not going to be \u2018a liar\u2019 and say someone is \u2018plural.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the BEA\u2019s efforts to have MacRae removed from the committee, she received a letter from Hanover High School Principal Matthew Mattos notifying her she would be fired from her job due to her social media activity according to Judicial Watch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have determined that continuing your employment in light of your social media posts would have a significant impact on student learning at HHS,\u201d the letter allegedly said.
