(Photo by Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Andy Stone, a spokesman for Facebook\u2019s parent company Meta, commented on the situation, stating: \u201cAfter the verdict in Kenosha we rolled back the restrictions we had in place that limited search results from returning content related to key terms including Kyle Rittenhouse. While we will still remove content that celebrates the death of the individuals killed in Kenosha, we will no longer remove content containing praise or support of Rittenhouse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stone added that Rittenhouse is now allowed to make accounts on both Facebook and Instagram and will be given the option of restoring his old accounts to creating new ones.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Facebook faced criticism for its handling of the Rittenhouse situation after Facebook\u2019s former Director of Counterterrorism and Dangerous Organizations, Brian Fishman, designated the shooting a \u201cmass murder\u201d in August 2020.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.5\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Yesterday we designated the shooting as a mass murder and removed the shooter\u2019s accounts from Facebook &amp; Instagram. Per standard practice in these situations, we are also removing praise and support of the shooter and have also blocked searches of his name on our platforms. 2\/n<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Brian Fishman (@brianfishman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brianfishman\/status\/1299084287686434816?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 27, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) said in a statement last month that tech companies \u201cmade up their minds on this case months ago, sought to deny Kyle Rittenhouse the presumption of innocence and censored those who disagreed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On October 28, Fishman stated that he had \u201cdecided to leave Facebook to pursue other opportunities.\u201d Fishman\u2019s last day at the company was November 19, the day that the jury acquitted Rittenhouse of all charges.<\/p>\n<p>Fishman stated via Twitter that he had&nbsp;\u201crelayed a Facebook internal decision using the term of art used by the company\u201d when referring to the shooting as a \u201cmass murder.\u201d Fishman added that the timing of his departure was \u201centirely coincidental.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.386759581882\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sure.
