The rites are contingent upon the local Diocesan Bishop\u2019s allowance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The liturgy also uses \u201cthey\/them\/theirs\u201d pronouns, which allow for the preferred pronouns of the congregant to be used in the prayer or ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The rites included are pastoral prayers \u201cblessing\u201d the gender transition in either public worship or a smaller setting while the \u201cAffirmation of Gender Identity\u201d designed for public worship. The liturgy recommends placing the rites \u201cwithin a eucharistic celebration\u201d to ground them in the \u201csalvation story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the rite \u201cA Blessing over the Process of Gender Transition\u201d the text the presider is supposed to read that what scripture says about the \u201cfirst human\u2019s gender\u201d is more \u201cpoetic\u201d rather than \u201cclear cut.\u201d It also says that \u201cmore than\u201d maleness and femaleness were \u201caffirmed as very good.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The text also endorses people physically changing their genders and even says it honors God.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaking steps physically or spiritually to manifest our gender identity more fully is to participate in God\u2019s commandment to tend and love all that God has made,\u201d a deacon is supposed to say.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The presider also asks for God\u2019s blessing for \u201cthe gender transition process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The text recommends that the rite \u201cAffirmation of Gender Identity\u201d rite take placed during a special day on the church calendar like Advent 3 or Transfiguration Sunday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe gather to acknowledge a new way in which N [the person with new gender identity] is seeking to be known and [and their new name], signifying all that N has always been, is now, and is still becoming,\u201d the leader is supposed to say in one iteration of the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>In another version, the leader makes reference to the name changing of several biblical figures including Abram, Jacob, and Saul. While these figures all did have their names change, they did not change genders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The presider says that the person having their gender affirmed is becoming part of this \u201chonoured and holy tradition.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The resource includes additional prayers and blessings including a blessing over \u201ctreatment\u201d which asks God to \u201cmake use of\u201d a number of different hormones including estrogen and other \u201cmedications\u201d There is also a prayer for surgery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the end, a number of Bible passages, hymns, and a number of resources listed that were used to create the liturgy. One of the resources used was an article from the organization <a href=\"http:\/\/transtorah.org\/\">TransTorah<\/a>.
