Smith\/Getty)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The engineers allege that they were fired for protesting Google\u2019s decision to sell cloud computing software to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) during the Trump administration. The employees circulated a company-wide petition that requested that Google promise not to work with CBP or ICE.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The complaint alleges that the former employees saw Google\u2019s work with CBP under the Trump administration as \u201cevil\u201d and by circulating a petition calling for the company to end its relationship with CBP were simply upholding Google\u2019s mandate to call out unethical conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRivers, Waldman and Duke each engaged in activities consistent with Google\u2019s \u2018Don\u2019t be evil\u2019 contractual obligation,\u201d the lawsuit states. \u201cSpecifically, they questioned Google management regarding its intent to enter into a contract with the Trump administration\u2019s Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and\/or Office of Refugee Resettlement agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google used \u201cDon\u2019t Be Evil,\u201d as its motto for years but moved away from the phrase after rebranding as Alphabet in 2015. However, \u201cDon\u2019t Be Evil\u201d remains part of the company\u2019s official employee code of conduct, which states in its final line: \u201cRemember\u2026 don\u2019t be evil, and if you see something that you think isn\u2019t right \u2013 speak up!\u201d Employees sign the contract as a condition of their employment at the tech giant.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleges that Google breached its contract with the employees after firing them within minutes of each other on November 25, 2019.
