Instead [they] were trying to convict him based upon their interpretation of his character,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Knox asserted that it was \u201cradically, radically irresponsible of the prosecutor to charge him with murder in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was not a murder case,\u201d Knox said, adding that Rittenhouse had a right to defend himself. \u201cIf you don\u2019t like the self-defense law you can go to your legislature and say you don\u2019t believe in self-defense,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Knox also called out the \u201ccharacter assassination\u201d of the teen, and noted that much of the information, false or true, was \u201cirrelevant\u201d to his innocence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was so much focus on irrelevant information and character assassination instead of the specific actions that led up to this tragic moment,\u201d she told Kelly. \u201cWhich isn\u2019t to say that Kyle Rittenhouse should be celebrated as a hero either because that\u2019s again playing him as a political football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s kid who made a mistake but he doesn\u2019t deserve to spend the rest of his in prison for it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly noted of the smears against Rittenhouse, specifically the false claims that he is a \u201cwhite supremacist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTalk about poisoning the jury pool,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cIt was a lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At some point, Kelly said, you need to \u201cshow me the evidence, and if they cannot, we as a responsible society have to move on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"cue style-scope ytd-transcript-body-renderer\" role=\"button\">\u201cAbsolutely,\u201d Knox agreed. \u201cAnd also I would say that like, whether or not he [Rittenhouse] knows that he was doing an okay sign or a white supremacist sign is ultimately irrelevant. In the same way that like if I were a professional dominatrix at the time that Meredith was murdered, it also would not have made a difference.
