Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing to ensure that an overhaul to how the military handles cases of sexual assault and other major crimes is not omitted from the National Defense Authorization Act.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gillibrand.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Final%20MJIIPA%20Conference%20Letter%2011.30.pdf\">letter<\/a> to the chair and ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, 44 senators and 22 representatives called on the reforms to pass as part of the annual defense bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSexual assault in the military is a serious concern and demands a real solution, not a watered-down provision slipped in the final bill behind closed doors,\u201d the group wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis provision is the only reform that will provide true independence for prosecutors in the military justice system and is essential to ensure that victims, accused, and the public all have full faith and confidence in the military justice process,\u201d the letter added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/25\/josh-hawley-kirsten-gillibrand-legislation-improve-military-response-sexual-assault\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Josh Hawley, Kirsten Gillibrand Team Up To Improve The Military\u2019s Response To Sexual Assault)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7199480\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"33\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7199480\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sen.
