She has been charged with recruiting and grooming underaged girls for sex, to which she has pleaded not guilty, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/11\/16\/1056239133\/ghislaine-maxwell-jury-selection-sex-trafficking-trial-jeffrey-epstein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The meme, which features a photo of Maxwell, reads, \u201cFederal cases are not televised. You can listen to the audio.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/07\/17\/fact-check-ghislaine-maxwell-positive-covid-19-jail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Ghislaine Maxwell Test Positive For COVID-19 In A New Hampshire Jail?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contrary to the image\u2019s claim, the phone number and numerical code will not give people access to an audio feed of Maxwell\u2019s ongoing trial. The U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/united-states-v-ghislaine-maxwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explicitly states<\/a> in a Nov. 29 update regarding the <em>United States v. Ghislaine Maxwell<\/em> case: \u201cBeyond the live feeds within the courthouse, the trial will not be further broadcast; nor will there be any telephonic dial-in to the proceedings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The phone number and access code featured in the meme come from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/united-states-v-ghislaine-maxwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oct. 20 update<\/a> from the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York that said reporters and members of the public could use them to access a live audio feed of a telephone conference held by the court Oct. 21 to \u201cdiscuss jury selection matters.\u201d Prior to Nov. 1, the public had been able to access certain court proceedings in Maxwell\u2019s case using dial-in numbers, a review of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/united-states-v-ghislaine-maxwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">updates<\/a> from the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York showed.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/nysd.uscourts.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-11\/Memo%20re%20Telephone%20Access%20for%20Crim%2011.3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">memo<\/a> from the Office of the District Court Executive stated that starting Nov. 1, there would no longer be public access via telephone for \u201cin-court criminal proceedings, including trials.\u201d The court had \u201cpreviously provided such access on a case-by-case basis pursuant to the CARES Act due to the substantial restrictions on in-person attendance during much of the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d but said it would no longer do so effective Nov. 1 \u201cgiven that the public can now access in-person proceedings relatively freely, and the Court can provide overflow courtrooms as needed,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nysd.uscourts.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-11\/Memo%20re%20Telephone%20Access%20for%20Crim%2011.3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">early November memo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That memo <a href=\"https:\/\/nysd.uscourts.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-11\/Memo%20re%20Telephone%20Access%20for%20Crim%2011.3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cited<\/a> Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 53, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/rules\/frcrmp\/rule_53\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">states<\/a> that federal courts \u201cmust not permit the taking of photographs in the courtroom during judicial proceedings or the broadcasting of judicial proceedings from the courtroom.\u201d <strong><a
