But all the scientists I\u2019ve talked to\u2009.\u2009.\u2009. are like, \u2018This is not going to be good,&#8217;\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Bancel\u2019s remarks follow the emergence of the omicron variant, which President Biden described of one as \u201cgreat concern.\u201d He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/27\/joe-biden-voices-great-concern-omicron-variant-spreads-rapidly\/\">pointed<\/a> to vaccinations as a way to combat the virus and dismissed those who have refused to get the vaccine, suggesting it is actually unpatriotic of them not to get the jab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, we always talk about whether this is about freedom, but I think it\u2019s a patriotic responsibility to do that,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\" readability=\"10.603603603604\">When asked if lockdowns were off the table, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/29\/joe-biden-lockdowns-fight-omicron-variant-off-the-table-for-now\/\">left<\/a> the door open, telling reporters they are \u201cfor now.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\" readability=\"16.828973843058\">\n<p>\u201cIf people are vaccinated and wear their masks, there\u2019s no need for the lockdown,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>While Bancel suggested the existing vaccines will not be as efficient at combating the variant, breakthrough infections of the virus are already widespread, although the exact number is unknown to the general public.<em> Face the Nation\u2019s<\/em> Margaret Brennan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/transcript-dr-anthony-fauci-on-face-the-nation-november-28-2021\/\">asked<\/a> Dr. Anthony Fauci on Sunday why the CDC does not appear to be tracking those figures, but he suggested they are doing so behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIn many respects, they are,\u201d he said of the public health officials tracking the data but failing to directly answer the question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy did- why did the United States decide not to track those breakthrough infections?\u201d Brennan pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it\u2019s a very complicated indication- excuse me. It\u2019s a very complicated situation,\u201d Fauci said, admitting the data is not immediately available to the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd often the public doesn\u2019t hear yet in time things that are being collected. So there\u2019s a lot of data, clearly a lot of data, that\u2019s being collected by the CDC that people don\u2019t know about yet. So we need to make sure in real time we get that data out,\u201d he began:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p>Historically, when you\u2019re not in a pandemic, you can collect data, you can analyze it, you could talk about it and then you could look back and say this is what we\u2019ve done. But when you\u2019re dealing with a pandemic, you\u2019ve got to get that out in real time so your policies can be dictated by data that occurred relatively recently, not data that occurred four or five months ago.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the criticism that they\u2019re too academic,\u201d Brennan said, garnering Fauci\u2019s agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut is there data being collected now in the United States about breakthrough infections that the public doesn\u2019t know about?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mpu-flex-middle-content-right-rail6\" class=\"ad-mpu-flex-middle-content-right-rail ad-wrapper \">&nbsp;\u201cYes, yes. Yes.
