Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who failed on Monday to pass a routine defense bill to clear legislative calendar days to pass the $1.9 trillion reconciliation package.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Democrats are scrambling to execute the priority of funding the government. Schumer is reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/29\/federal-government-run-out-money-four-days-overfull-senate-schedule\/\">trying<\/a> to get Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on board to pass a measure Wednesday to partially fund the government until late January. But no outcome has resulted from talks.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Schumer is likely angling to fund the government only until late January to avoid a larger fight with Republicans while freeing up calendar days to pass the reconciliation package.<\/p>\n<p>Complicating the passage of funding the federal government is the Senate Democrats\u2019 failed attempt to pass a routine defense bill, called the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The defense act is usually a bipartisan piece of legislation that has been enacted for 60 years.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Republicans successfully delayed the passage of the NDAA Monday to presumably tighten the screws on the Senate Democrats\u2019 legislative calendar with the intention of thwarting the massive tax and spend welfare package.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about a general effort to obstruct anything that\u2019s going on, with the hope that will reflect poorly on Joe Biden,\u201d embattled Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/11\/29\/democrats-year-end-crush-523485\">told<\/a> <em>Politico<\/em> about Republicans\u2019 successful effort Monday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18642962\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"32\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18642962\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/pres-joe-biden-facepalm-wh-aug-5-21-ap-640x480-640x480-1.jpg\" alt=\"Joe Biden\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Biden (AP Photo\/Evan Vucci)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s incompetence of managing the bill,\u201d Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said defending Republicans. \u201cWe can get it done this week. They don\u2019t have their act together on reconciliation yet, so it\u2019s not to delay that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schumer has said he wants a vote on the reconciliation package before Christmas, an aggressive schedule. Yet Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has slow-walked the reconciliation process, stated he is fine with the package being considered in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In order to pass the reconciliation package on time, however, Senate Democrats must fund the government, raise the debt ceiling before December 15, and pass the NDAA \u2014 all within December.<\/p>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s our responsibility to make sure that we take care of the debt ceiling.
