The agency cited Exemption 7(A), which Congress designed to shield records that were \u201ccompiled for law enforcement\u201d and \u201ccould reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceeding.\u201d The FAA did not specify which enforcement proceeding the records might interfere with; Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein\u2019s ex-girlfriend and confidante, faces a trial over sex-trafficking charges this month.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But despite its original denial, the FAA inadvertently mailed Insider a portion of Epstein\u2019s flight records alongside correspondence for an unrelated FOIA request earlier this year. The records contained data on 2,300 flights among four private jets registered to Epstein between 1998 and 2020. Most of them had appeared in Insider\u2019s searchable database of all known flights connected to Epstein. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The new FAA records also reveal 704 previously unknown flights taken by Epstein\u2019s planes. These include hundreds of trips from a three-year gap in the public record, from 2013 to 2016, when the jets\u2019 movements were unaccounted for.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The records do not reveal the names of passengers who were on the flights but the report noted that they could provide clues about what Epstein or his associates were up to at the points in time when the flights were taken.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein\u2019s private jets most often flew between the areas where he owned homes, including New York, Florida, New Mexico, France, and the Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n<p>The revelation comes as the trial for Epstein\u2019s gal pal, Ghislaine Maxwell, kicked off this week in Federal District Court in Manhattan with opening statements from one of the pilots who flew Epstein\u2019s planes.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2021\/11\/29\/nyregion\/ghislaine-maxwell-trial\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>More than two years after Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in a jail cell a month after his arrest on sex-trafficking charges, Ghislaine Maxwell \u2014 the woman who prosecutors say helped him to recruit, groom and abuse young girls \u2014 went on trial on Monday in Manhattan.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ms. Maxwell and Mr. Epstein were \u201cpartners in crime,\u201d a federal prosecutor, Lara Pomerantz, told the jury.
